The Cube had a lot of good titles. Since it wasn't the biggest seller of its generation, it had few exclusives that weren't first party. But the
Cube was quite cheap later in its lifetime and many of the best games
were $20 (or less used) when rereleased as Greatest Hits. So for ~$70
for the console plus $20 each for say...
Paper Mario
Super Monkey Ball 2
Metroid Prime
Ikaruga
Wind Walker
etc.
you could get a pretty good collection of games for not much over $100.
And now that the console is obsolete, it's even cheaper than when I
started collecting for it around 2003. Anyway, It's an affordable way
to pick up a few really fun games, but if you want to be able to
play everything good from that generation, you need a second console.
At least it's small, rugged, and you can fit a lot on one memory card.

QFT! I bought my SNES so that I could play Tetris Attack. If nothing else good was on that system (yeah, right!) I wouldn't be a bit disappointed.JJG wrote:The real question is how many games that you like do you have to have on a system for it to be worth it to you?
For me that answer is one...
I try and support the Gamecube as much as possible. And by that I mean, if something came out on PS2, Gamecube, and XBOX, I'll track down the Gamecube version. I keep the exclusives for the other systems

The true charm of this game really only shows itself when you play it all the way through with all four players filled out. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to do this, as getting three friends who:Andi wrote:You know, at first, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles made me mad as hell. You had to use a Gameboy to play 2 player, and despite the fact that the devoted an entire Gameboy to displaying menus, the menus were awful and didn't tell you important stuff (like how many materials it takes to make an item, or your gold amount while you are in a shop). Plus, it has a ton of obscure game play systems that only begin to make sense after you've researched them on the internet. And the world map takes about 2 hours to get anywhere on because of the boring story encounters and the elemental fields you have to pay attention to.
My roommate really wanted to play it though, so we played it for about half the game and then I quit. We started again months later and we got a little farther before I quit. Now we are playing again (because we haven't got any new two player games in a while) and since I've prepared myself for most aggrivating and stupid parts of the game, I'm actually sort've enjoying it.
A) Have a compatible GBA (Only two of the three designs can even be used)
B) Have the GBA <-> GC controller cable (Almost no reason to have it except for this game)
C) Have the time and interest to match the schedule of the rest of the group, and the desire to actually want to sit around playing Final Fantasy for 30-40 hours with them. (Good luck)
I am lucky enough to have had the opportunity, and we had a total blast. The strategy and teamwork involved in fighting bosses and timing spells with three friends who are genuinely as into it as you are is an experience that no other video game has ever given me.
That said, it was a bizarre overestimation on Square's part to expect many groups at all to fit the all the criteria for actually having fun with Crystal Chronicles. It is really no wonder that it is so widely hated.

I think if Atari Corp. had included Tempest 2000 as pack-in game instead of Cybermorph, they would've sold plently of more Jaguar consoles. Since the Jaguar was already out in select major cities by November of 1993, and Tempest 2000 didn't arrive until March of 1994, it really wasn't that much of a wait. ^_~Ceph wrote:Atari could really have used Alien vs. Predator as launch title. It would have been a fitting pack-in game, too, considering the Jaguar's controller was apparently designed for Aliens (or by Aliens?).
Now if Atari had properly released a rotatary knob spinner controller for Tempest 2000, then it would've the best way to play properly play this Jaguar killer-app title. Still, there's nothing like playing the original Atari Games Tempest color arcade cabinet with it's stunning high-res vector graphics. ^_~

Good point. It also would've helped if they hadn't released a controller with a million buttons on it and overlays to boot-like it was 1983 or something! That's about the worst controller I've ever used; I remember playing a Jaguar in the Fall of '95, I think Iron Soldier was on it, and I could barely get my mech to move.
I no longer have my Cube, but you can pick them up for pretty cheap, used, at GameStop. They also still carry the GBA player.
