theres approx 40+ Egret 2's in the UK now I reckon - probably the most common candy cab in the UK

that is true
and they do seem to be popular with alot of you shmup fans
although I think you mean dual sync (15k/24k) but they can be made multisync with a simple chassis swap

I couldn't say, I left it in the hands of the owner when he returned last year.
I may get involved with a few others at some point as I want a Vewlix L, but i'd never go the whole group order thing again, at most i'd buy and sell any cabs myself and price them at however I saw fit after work carried out to them/parts replaced etc, but in honesty I have no will in wanting to deal with 10+ year old cabs anymore

Well, if there are a few people interested I think this can be made to work, and I am happy to organise a group buy. Hopefully I'll have quotes for shipping from Sven soon enough, although to be honest it might be just as easy to drive there and collect them.
I guess I'll start a dedicated thread for it. Unless anyone has any better ideas, the Egret cabs seem like the best bet since they are easy to rotate and suitable for connection to a wide variety of PCBs, home systems and PCs.

just pitching another idea for a sweden-trip here..
i think theres a car ferry from newcastle (?) to hoek van holland (netherlands) that still runs.
from hoek van holland its a 12 hour trip to sweden, a trip i have made 1000 times as i grew up in the neighbouring village (s'graavenzande), if you are two or three buddies driving in shifts you can easily make that trip over a weekend (leave friday evening and return sunday evening).
this way youll spend maybe ~€350 for the whole shipping, if you spread that cost over 4 or 5 cabs youve got one hell of a cheap cab delivery to your door

That is damn tempting Sven. That ferry does still run, only thing is that it's about a six hour journey to Newcastle for me by road so it would actually be quicker to go through the tunnel and drive to Sweeden!
There is also a ferry directly to Gothenburg from Newcastle. Shame none go from Dover etc.
Having said that, if there is someone living up north who could do the trip, it would be reasonable to just have the machines delivered commercially from Newcastle.
I could take a couple of days off work and do the trip over four days if needed. It's a shame we don't have the super fast and efficient motorways/autoroutes/autobhans they have in Europe in the UK.
One other option would get to get a cheap flight to Gothenburg. London to Gothenburg is about £85 on Lastminute.com, and then hire a van for the trip back if possible...
