Where to get candy cabs in the UK / Europe?

Post by mojo »

I'm looking for a candy cab in the UK, but can't find anywhere that supplies them. There are a few group buys from last year, but they have all finished now :(

I'm looking for something like an Egret with an easily rotatable multisync monitor.

Maybe if there are another 18 people who are interested we could do a group buy? It would be useful even for Europeans, since once here freight to Europe should be possible.

Maybe next year I'm up for a unit, but right now i'm cramming all this stuff in my bedroom. So unless I sleep outside I can't really add anything right now.

Garage is getting converted at some point and I will be interested then.

Start a WTB thread on our new forum. - http://www.arcadeotaku.com/forum/

(may be sign up delays until the DNS propagates later today-ish)

If no-ones selling I dare say someone will arrange another group buy next year.

Pretty much same here, if I can get the cash together. I guess we're talking £600-£650 each right?

£650 is usually just for carting it into the country. Depending on if you expect delivery from the port you should add least add £100.

My local pub wasn't populated with Astro Cities and Egrets the last time I went for a pint. The local paper doesn't seem to help much either.

£600-650 is about right. Unfortunately we don't seem to have any Japanese style candy cabs in the UK, only stand-up ones so they are hard to get. If no-one comes up with anything I'll definitely see about organising something next year though.

In fact, I will probably go to Japan around xmas or in the new year, so might be able to do something then.

ummmmm..no sitdown cabs in UK??

killercabs anybody??

with all the cabs tone imported there are dozens floating around the UK...

while the site is gone, the cabs remain....one must hope somebody sells one....

and you are lucky in the fact that you live on a much smaller land mass than north america.....if somebody is selling a cab, much more likely for you to be in driving distance.....cuz if you arent willing to drive anywhere from 2-8 hours, you dont want a cab that badly obviously

here if one comes up for sale it is more likely it will be DAYS away

i got both my new astro city's off brendz....a member both here and killercabs, who happens to live in the same city as me

some times it just takes patience, luck, and more than likely, more patience

good luck in your search boys

EDIT--600TH POST  .....and in just over 6 months.....thats a sobering statistic.....but im also on here pretty much all the time....its my home page at home and i keep it open on my desktop at work, and just click reload every few minutes while i work...lolz

i have as many egret 2s as you want readily available in Gothenburg , Sweden.

theyre €700 each, maybe a little discount if you want several of them.

i will NOT waste my time putting together any kind of shipping quote however, this is the buyers responsibility entierly.

lmk if youre interested :)

Lets all just do a mass order from Sven :D

If it happens I want an E2 (preferred) or New Astro city.

I'm not very good at shipping and stuff but would be willing to do if someone gave me leads on how to do it (shipper, telephone number etcetc). So if someone takes the lead on that. I'd work it so that the whole shipment went into the middle of the UK so that people in Sunderland don't have to travel to Portsmouth and vice versa.

Maybe I can do it, but I've got to empty the garage as I cannot store but 2 or 3 in there right now. I live in Bedford which is pretty much in the middle of the UK and easy access from M1 and A1 as I'm smack in the middle of the two.

Then there is the choice aspect of it. I don't know what Sven's inventory is like. I doubt he will ship his best units out, well he might . I'd be happy with a NAC, an E2 would be a bonus.

Well anyway, i'm just waggling here. We will see. Keep this thread handy for 2009.

well i have about 20 units, if you come in person to pick them up you can choose whichever you want yourselves.
if you just send a truck (shenker, dhl etc) to pick up you get the units closest to the door :P

all my cabs are tested and 100% functioning and whole/complete.
however these are used (like all other cab deals) and slight burn-in and general scuffs around the cabinets can occur.

i picked 4 random cabs out of the stock and after a proper cleaning and finetuning the monitors they were in excellent condition, after my shmeet 3 of them went straight away without any fuss. (i kept the 4th for myself).

if there is interest id be happy to negotiate a deal with you guys, just dont ask me anything regarding the shipping of these units. (i will pack the units for shipping and help load them onto teh truck but thats it).

btw i only have egret 2s, no astros or anything else (this was the last shipment I will ever do, im not looking to compete with KC or anyone, just ordered this container out of habit pretty much :P)

Come ourselves? I don't think Sweden is that near to the UK, your talking 2 day round trip at the very least. If someone is crazy enough to do a trek to Sweden and back thats fine but I Don't think its going to happen.

Does anyone have a lorry/truck that can house all this? I wouldn't mind going for the ride.

well its definetly the cheapest option, get a van and a small grouporder for 3-4-5cabs.

if you take the eurotunnel its a ~20hour drive starting from the brittish coast (one way), actually if you have the time its quite a nice trip if you spread it out over a week or so :) (belgium, holland, germany, denmark, sweden and back, lots of nice places to see)

Well, I live in Portsmouth so a couple of hours from the Dover ferry...

Hiring a van is an option I guess, but I wonder if it might actually be cheaper or easier to just get it commercially shipped. 20 hour drive means hotels and lots of petrol.

I will look into it. Sven, can you tell us approximately how much each cabinet weighs and it's dimensions? I have the Egret 2 listed at 175kg and dimensions 750x903x1450mm.

A lot of people seem to want to wait until next year, which is a bit of a shame but I guess I can wait too if it comes to it. 700 Euros is about £560 currently.

Edit: Sven, I PM'ed you :)

dimensions are correct, not sure about the weight tho, can it really be 175Kgs?
i can easily lift one with a friend and im a tiny guy, id guess more around 120-130Kgs... never actually weighed one tho.

175 lbs maybe....but that sounds a little light....my new astro city's are just shy of 200 lbs with the monitors in them.....i cant see egret 2's being almost double that....dimensions wise they are almost exactly the same

I struggle with 20Kg luggage, and an average man is about 70kg I think, so it does seem a bit high. This site says "shipping weight" 178kg:

http://www.arcade-game-sales.com/produc ... 267-3.html

(in Australia, BTW, cheap but I don't know about shipping, I have emailed them since the cabs seem to be so cheap and are shipped from Japan anyway...)

Sven supplied me with his address so I am looking into shipping options for Sweden too.

you really have to order a whole container of cabs to make it worthwhile on the trans-continental shipping (20-30pcs).
dont forget you also have to get them thru customs.

either that or having some badass freight contacts you can squeeze ;)

Yeah, I tried the shipping overseas from Japan thing once. I live in the midwest/US, and just to ship it to a port was double what the cabinet was worth. Not to mention I would have to somehow arrange some shipping company to go to the port to pick it up, and ship it to me in the midwest for about another $500.

That would mean I paid 3 times more then what the cabinet cost just to ship it to me. :x yuk.

Okay, I have been doing some investigating :)

Arcade-game-sales.com have some other people in the UK interested and suggested that they should ship 16 machines to the UK for around 350-400USD each (around £215) including VAT etc. The machines themselves are £350 each, but of course there is probably going to be VAT on that which would bring it to £411. I don't think there is any import duty but I must double check. Say around £630 per machine, and then delivery/pickup in the UK would need to be arranged.

They also have some other customers who are interested, which would help get the numbers up. Also note that those are 110V machines (surely 100V or dual 100/110V, as they are Japanese, but anyway... at least 50Hz mains won't be an issue, so just a step-down transformer (£35) is needed or new PSU).

Sven, presumably your units are 230V 50Hz European standard anyway... I am still waiting on shipping details, but 700 Euros is about £560 so it may well be cheaper to get them shipped from Sweden, or do some kind of pick-up mission

Picking up from Sven would definitely be better if only small numbers were involved. 16 machines is going to be a bit of a challenge to organise. I'm still waiting for quotes (bank holiday weekend).

Need suggestions people :?

I was offered more Egret 2's and Egret 3's this week while enquiring about Vewlix prices, I didn't show any interest in bringing any more of them, I've dealt with enough of them to be bored sensless by them. need something fresh bringing into the UK now
