SPI mobo not working?

Post by maxlords »

Ok, I have the following:

Raiden Fighters 2
SPI mobo

I bought the two from separate sources. I put em together tonight and...nothing. Black screen. I'm fairly certain my cart is Japanese as I bought it from a Japanese seller in Japan. I'm not sure that the board is. Is there any way to tell? The back of it had a sticker that said AAMA which might mean American Arcade Manufacturer's Association. Or I might be totally off base.

Does anyone know what happens if you plug a Jp cart into a US board? Black screen? Is there any way aside from a multimeter (which I don't have or know how to use) to figure this out?

If your mobo is US, they aren't compatible and your need to either buy another game/mobo or change the region of the eproms.

If your mobo is JPN, did you try to swith the Jumper JP 072 ?

When you change a game, you need to upload some file of the new game inside the mobo. Be very careful when you do that because if the power is shutted down during the process the end of the world will come, well for you. You must switch the jumper back when the game is uploaded.

Yep, those two will not work together unfortunately.

However, I will buy your US board from you, so it isn't a total loss :). You will need to track down a JP motherboard.

If you plug an incompatible cart into a SPI motherboard you will get an error on the screen. You should not get a black screen.

Also which type of motherboard do you have ?

SXX2C Ver. 2.0

Are those little black jumpers on it good for anything? Maybe I need to switch em? I don't want to fiddle too much with it.

For maxlords,

If your SP1 mobo does have a "AAMA" holograhic sticker on it, it is a USA region one. Such a JPN region SP1 mobo will not have such a "AAMA" sticker placed on it in the first place. To get around the JPN and USA region cartridge issues, it's generally recommended to pick up both such region SP1 mobos. ^_~

Good luck on searching for a USA region SP1 mobo...

Most of them deal with the stereo and FLASHing of carts. Do you have any other carts to compare with ?
