Will the PS2 be the last great console for 2d shmups?

I can't see the next gen of consoles having many, although if any are released i'd be overjoyed.

This leaves the PS2 as probably the greatest current console available for shmups( at least in number of games).

Do you know of any games planned for the next gen consoles?

And does anyone have a list of shmups available for PS2?

R type final,Gradius 3/4,V,Steal Dragon EX,Gunbird se,1945 I+II,Psyvariar(complete edition),XII stag.

Is this the lot??

Are ANY of these available as PAL releases or are they just jpn ntsc ?

The UK PAL PS2 is a bastad to run NTSC games on.

Nothing like the DC or GC(simple boot disc's) to enable NTSC games.

Just placed a bid for Silpheed, UK PAL available.

Mobile light force= NTSC or Italian PAL only available.

What about Fireblade? heard of this one?

Seriously How Could You not Get it?
This game goes down in the annals of gaming history as the gayest shooting game ever.
Not many games can take that title. So enjoy.
Then fire up Dead or Alive 2, don't worry you'll be ok.

So yeah.. Go PS2!

Iv'e got all of these from UK shops (mostly Gamestation and Game) apart from Mobile Light Force 2 which was from Tesco.com

Not many on UK PAL PS2 really.

Well, at least it's a much longer list than GC shmups!! I have none for GC, although i do have RE4,Metroid Prime,Rogue Squadron II to make up for it though.

"Italian PAL"? "UK PAL"?

There's no PAL this or PAL that, just PAL. You could buy a PS2 game from Sweden and it would run in your system just the same.

Mobile Light force 1 & 2 came out for the UK. I picked up #2 in Virgin about a year ago.

some nice titles there. I might consider moving my dc a bit to the left to fit the new slim ps2 in there. Hopefully the vga adapter for ps2 will work well.

You might as well get rid of that UK ps2 and get a Japanese or asian one from playasia. Nothing good came out here you can't get there, but not vice versa.

The latter is the PAL release, which doesn't save high-scores. Aside from that, they're identical.

I disagree, considering they're still being made for the arcades and there will always be a demand, if limited, for ports.

It's too early to tell but most probably the PS3 will have the most, but then the Revolution and 360 might have some.

We'll have to wait and see really.

The other two Psikyo collections are coming out, from 505/Digital Bros this time (XII Stag publishers - they mainly distribute to Italy and France, but they always include 60hz at least).

I don't think any others have been announced, but I'm sure some opportunist budget publisher will pick a couple up when the PS2's on its way out.

Actually I've never played XII Stag!
I copied that quote from another list made by someone else & added the comments on Choaniki: Sei Naru Protein Densetsu .

I only have these for my PS-2 anyway so I wouldn't mind to try the rest on that list.

I think it might be, it seems that E3 was all about Graphics, which means 2D games might not be heard for a very long time (or even disappear), unless they make 2D type in a 3D game, whichc i hate

I think the only way we'll see Shoot Em Ups, is in 2.5D like Ikaruga, RayStorm, RayCrisis, Thunder Force V. R-Type Final/Delta, Shikigami No Shiro, etc...

Pure 2D is getting a bit dated even in shmups by todays standards.

I actually I like 2.5D more than pure 2D in some cases.
for example, I hate the way the levels scroll vertically in TF4. The 2.5D perepsective in TFV is much better in that aspect.

But I'm sure they'll continue to make pure 2D shmups on the arcades.
By the way isn't Ibara & Mushihimesama - Insect Princess 2D or are they 2.5D?
