Giga Wing 2 slowdown

Post by black mariah »

I've been watching some of Kiken's GW2 Score Attack replays and was kind of shocked that he doesn't have anywhere NEAR the slowdown that I get on my DC. When he triggers a volcanon there is a bit of slowdown but when I do it the slowdown lasts until the volcanon is pretty much gone from the screen. What gives? Is the US version broken or something?

I have both versions, and i think they are the same. The slowdowns start during when the reflect(longer if reflecting more bullets) turns to volcano, and ends when the medals are falling down. There's even more slowdown during consecutive volcanoes.

Perhaps Rob and/or Kiken can explain better.

I never noticed slowdown with volcanon. It always seemed to return to normal speed when they started. As IlMrm said, slowdown seems to be when the reflect barrier is used.

I have noticed something weird with GW1 though. Some rare games there will be no slowdown at all. It makes no sense, but maybe different machines have more difficulty than others or have variable performance like that.

Rob, are you really sure you put much time into Gigawing 2? It slows down quite a bit...nothing massive, but its noticable, expecially when you trigger those "volcanoes". Huh, they look like thousands of coffins to me.

Around 100+ hours! The medal collecting certainly isn't in slo-mo. It'd probably make it a little easier.

We're talking MASSIVE slowdown on my box. It's to the point where it's so slow I've died simply because the sudden jump back up to speed has thrown me straight into a bullet. I can handle normal amounts of slowdown, but we're taling about ridiculous levels here.

Maybe I just have a slow DC.

Are you using Chery (red ship)? For some reason the homing shots create much more constant slowdown than the other ships, at least from what I can recall.

Are people using original GD's?

Quite a few of the nasty warez cdr releases of games add slowdown due to the way the cd is read and sector width difference.

One of the main reasons why Im always aprehensive of reading DC reviews on the net.

Rob: Nope. Using Kart.

Kron: Yep. Original GD.

I gotta agree here. Using an original US GDR on a JPN machine (or I was anyway), and there's quite severe slowdown from around the time just before the volcanon triggers, to around when the screen returns to normal and the last few medals are still floating down. And for the record I use Kart as well.

I've never played the US version... however, a friend of mine recently bought a copy from a trade-in store so I could always have him bring it over one day so I can run a side-by-side comparison.

That would be awesome. :D I hate to think that it was something as stupid as a crappy localization that made the game slower, but who knows? :?

The only slowdown I've ever witnessed while playing Giga Wing 2 is when you kill a lot of enemies at once with your reflect barrier and the screen just fills up with all those little green shields.

We played a few 4-player games one afternoon. Certain scenes would slow to a crawl, almost slide show quality, when we all broke out the big guns at the same time. But other times the game cruised along just fine - all four of us blazing away simultaneously.

Gorgeous game, BTW. I bit frantic for me but gorgeous nonetheless.

I just checked and the former is exactly how it is for me throughout most of the game. Minor and brief (1-3 seconds during reflect). Using U.S. version w/ Kart.

Damn, maybe I DO have a stupid DC. :? There are a few points where just the bullets onscreen slows everything down. In addition, after looking at the videos more carefully, they seem faster than mine all over the place. It's a SLIGHT speed difference, but noticeable. That may just be FPS conversion or something though...

I had 3 DCs in the last years: 2 were made in Malaysia I think and one is made in Japan.
The japanese DC is a lot faster with little slowdown.

Is anyone else in a position to test this? Highly intrigued.
