Post by Gemant »

I know this is a shmups site only, but maybe there are some interested players in this event.

NOW IT’S TIME TO … KNOCK OUT !

Players, you’re welcome in the topic introducing the most important event based on competition with emulated arcade games !
I suggest to all the players to read this text till the end.
You certainly know that the golden era of record belongs to the past. The challenge to compare knowledge and skill in arcade games now concerns a little number of fans.
Nowadays there are still two official contest based on various arcade game emulated, organized by Twin Galaxies and MARP, sites who cares about Arcade’s high-scores.
The contest of Twin Galaxies is called Decathlon, but in the last editions had a limited numbers of players.
The contest of MARP, called Knock Out, is instead a competition with a high number of players and the medium level of players’skill is higher.
I want to explain something about Knock Out.
What is Knock Out ? Knock Out is a MAME tournament that began in 2001 on MARP’S site and this year reachs the 7th edition.
Many of the best players in the world tried the luck in this high - level’s contest, attended every year by dozens of players from different countries (USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Finland and many others).
This year Knock Out was studied and organized especially from Gemant Zbl Fukuda and Marco Marocco, italian players, which are doing all they can for recruiting players from all the sites interested in arcade.
Knock Out 7 has been studied and planned for more than 3 months with the purpose of pointing out the talent, the intuition and the ability of investigation of the players.
I don’t want to hide that the level of engagement for compete in this contest is pretty high, but we suggest to try this esperience: you’ll keep an happy memory of your participation and your player’s skill will sure be increased by playing against the best players.
Knock Out is the only opportunity in the world for confronting with BBH, The Pro, Destructor, Don Hayes and all the other great players from different leagues.

KNOCK OUT 7 on MARP from 19th September 2008, h. 20.00 GMT!

You can subscribe in this forum http://forums.marpirc.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14447

You’ve to play with WolfMame 106 and register the inps, for sending them to MARP uploads.
The game are selected week by week by the coordinators and you don’t know the following games.
Knock Out is organized in 6 different rounds: Round 1 goes on for one month and all the players can play 3 games before the 1st step of elimination!
Don’t be afraid and test your skill: the real challenge is to improve your own score !

KNOCK OUT 7 is the real MAME World Championship !

It's in the middle of our own STGT, I doubt many people would skip STGT to play on Marp.

I mean, Marp.. bleh. Like it was impossible to cheat on Wolfmame, but possible to cheat on real PCBs. Yeah.

I played both last year, it wasn't too bad (although I didn't really put a whole lot of time into the MARP tournament...). It's a good tournament, I hope a lot of people will end up joining and participating.

If the games are better, I will.

The only problem with MARP is giving credence to Walter Day's Tree Club rules e.g. nulltoleranz policy on auto-fire. Hard to believe the guys who play Dig Dug and Crystal Castles (and shooters with two-bullet limits) would take that position. That's some hardcore shit right there.

I don't know the exact reason why MARP chose to do it, but it's easier to deal with everything if no games are allowed to have auto there. Track and field / Hypersports are a lot easier with auto. :D So aren't a lot of shooters. Anyone who has complained about auto not being allowed on certain games... well, I haven't really seen those people push the issue on the forums or anything.

Were it not for a weird bug in this security software (I'm at a library) I would join.

I for one support inducing wrist fractures and CTS in shmup fanz worldwide.

I mean, there has GOT to be a reason that no current gen console controllers feature autofire anymore, rite

This isn't a Marp credence, but a western credence, because in USA, Europe or other countries, autofire not was never used or applied in real cabinet.

"Autofire" is a new concept (known from web era) imported from Japan.
