Best Twinbee game

Post by Denvan »

Hi guys!

What is the best Twinbee game so far?
I know the gameplay is not what some shump freaks are looking for but I love the Twinbee serie and want to know your favourite Twinbee game!?

best greetings

Denvan from http://forum.sealedgameheaven.com

Looking at the screenshots on the back of box does not account to playing said games.

I dig that one for Famicom that's all platformer-like... Can't say I'm too familiar with any others though.

Detana for me (I have the US board with the catchy Bells & Whistles moniker). One of my all-time fave shmup chip music soundtracks in that one :)

Nice thread... until people started replying. :?

Yahhoo! is terrific fun and the best of the ones I've played. I'd like a compilation on PS2 (or 3 for that matter) so I could more easily do a comparison.

I'd go with either Pop'n or Yahho, myself.

Unfortunately, I doubt any system other than the PSP will get that treatment.

Is that comp. on PSP comprehensive? Now that I've got a working dpad I'm mildly interested.

Semi-comprehensive. IIRC It's got the first Twinbee, Detana, Yahho, Pop'n, and the Rainbow Bell Adventure remake on it - offhand I'm not sure which ones it left out.

Interesting, thanks BM. So here is another ignorant question: I've sometimes seen the Twinbees numbered: I've seen reference to a Twinbee 2 and 3, I believe. So which are these?

EDIT: A glance at Wikipedia was somewhat helpful, but I'll have to look into thos more carefully. There are more games than I thought.

Yahhoo! is the best. It has a great and different score system.

juggling bells nooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Pop'n'Twinbee is the best IMO. Though all of them are pretty good IMO, even the ancient first game is very enjoyable.

Cool bosses. Cool levels. Nice graphics. Difficult but rarely cheap.

Twinbee Yahho by far, Detana is a nice second though.

Twinbee Portable has tate options, and you'll need it, Pop N looks atrocious if not in tate mode as the screen is both squished and stretched.

Pop on the sfc is my fave. It has a certain softness to it that I like very much.

Soitenly. In case you hadn't already seen it, though, I goofed up in the post where I listed the games included on the PSP collection - instead of "Rainbow Bell Adventure" (that's the platformer) I should have said the remake of "Twinbee Da," another shooter.

It's probably not what you are looking for, anyhow.

To Dr.Ganson: One thing that really ticked me off about the PSP Twinbee compilation is that there are no options for adjusting the screen aspect ratio. Everything plays full-wide so it is non-uniformly scaled along the two axes. I have the PS1 deluxe pack, so I ended up selling the PSP compilation and buying Pop'n on SFC to have my favourite games in a proper aspect ratio.

I'd like some of that (probably illegal) substance you're smoking.

All you need to do is press or hold 'Start' while in the game of your choice and then choose your 'Screen Setting'. You can adjust the ratio, zoom and screen rotation depending on the game.

Ha ha, I feel a bit foolish now. Even when I had the game though, I played the console versions more. If I really want to play on PSP, I guess I could Popstation the PS1 version still.

The problem with Detana is that it has the Gradius-like feature of punishing you severely for dying. It's not quite as bad as Gradius (in the sense that making a comeback isn't completely impossible), but if you lose a life probably you are going to lose one or two more in rapid succession.

Other than that. I just think the levels, power-ups, and enemies are a lot less interesting in Detana.

I like them all, but Pop 'n, Detana, Da!!, and Yahhoo are my favorites.

The original Twinbee also does this. I like how power ups can be gotten back after dying in the NES exclusive Twinbees and Twinbee Da!! by catching a ghost Twinbee. It makes Da!! a little too easy, but it has a harder mode without it (too bad the default difficulty has to be beaten each time to get it).
