Super Robot Taisen Alpha 3

Post by Blade »

Okay, so I saw a Trailer of this sucker:

And if anyone likes shmups, giant robots, tactical rpgs, and pure adrenaline, should 'port this game.

I, sadly, do not have a means to import it, although I am considering obtaining a Japanese PS3 assuming it is backwards compatible.

Anymore info on this game and others like it would be appreciated.

It's also known as Super Robot Wars Alpha series.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

Jesus' BE ATTITUDE FOR GAINS:
1. Pure, Mournful, Humble Heart
2. Merciful Peacemaker
3. Suffer for Righteous Desire

I really like the style of the Taisen series

I have Super Robot Taisen Alpha 1 for the Dreamcast, it's excellent just a really good strategy mech game.

The fact that you play with characters/mechs from good animes like Gundam wing, Macross, Battle of the planests, Neon Genesis Evangelion and more, all with their weapons they use in the anime as well as some extras, attracted me to it staright away, cos I love those anime series. 8)

It's just real cool how your mechs and the enemies, look almost exactly like they do from the anime, and whichever character you use in battle, their own theme tunes from the anime plays while they fight, nice! :D
The general soundtrack is also very worth mentioning, if you like anime music.

Super Robot Taisen Alpha 2 and 3 are on PS2. In Taisen 2 I hear there's alot more mechs from other animes, the battle sequences are anime cell shaded style graphics, instead of typical polygon graphics like the first one. It has better anime cut scenes although the DC version is no slouch.

Taisen 3 covers more anime, and includes mechs from the Gundam seed series and Sega's Virtual On. I haven't seen anything for this game yet, but I'm sure it's more of the same with some major upgrades like Taisen 2.

I'm loving Taisen 1 on DC though, but I'm also looking for the 2&3 on the PS2. Funny thing is I'm not even into strategy games. I've never really liked them but I love Taisen, probably because I get to play with some of my favourite characters from anime, all in one very good game.

Why should someone like shmups import SRW?

Its a SRPG game.

And personally, I think the graphic in Alpha 3 is a huge stepback. Since SRWMX(released in May last year) already got FULL SCREEN cut-ins, Alpha 3 uses the same grpahic engine with Alpha 2(March 03)instead of the MX one. Very disappointed.

And I don't really care much about the new line-ups like Macross 7 or Gundam Seed. I am not a fan of both.

I know of MX for the PC, I suppose it's a slight stepback if there's no difference in graphics fom Taisen 2.

But as long as the gameplay is as tight as the others, I can easily over look the re-used graphics. The graphics in Taisen 2 arn't even bad anyway.

I personally am looking forward to the series. Hell, I've been playing SRT Original Generation 2 on my GBA nonstop.

OG2 looks great for a GBA game. But the balance of difficulty is terrible.

Just like SRWF(not Final) many years ago.

I finished the game once in normal mode(collected most skill points and played the final stage). And I haven't played it since.
