Gal´s Panic meets manic shmups

Post by raiden »

http://www.aya.or.jp/~sanami/gpx/

got that link yesterday and have been playing it with increasing enthusiasm. Gameplay is different from Gal´s Panic in that you can move within your territory, not only on all drawn lines, but you need that maneuverability to dodge the bullet patterns (!) enemies shoot at you. You have a smartbomb, some collectable power-ups, and there are several tricks to score higher. The score counter is prepared for quite a lot of digits...

Is it the full version? Nippon-Shoot'em up had a demo before it went down.

I don´t know, file size was 17mb, and I couldn´t make out any limitations so far (played until stage 3).
edit: well, it seems to be the full version, because there´s another download on the page which specifies it´s a demo, but with Galpanix, it doesn´t.

Damn you! Not since Sentimental Shooting have I burned away so many hours of my life, trying in futility to see some anime skin...

Freaking cheap too, sometimes it starts me out on a tiny square and then immediately point-blanks me with a big fat laser.. where the **** am I supposed to go?? It's too fast for me to react with a bomb too..

OK, I'm starting to get the hang of staying alive...
I'm having trouble getting 100% silhouette in stage 3 though, the possible trap areas are so tiny, not to mention the true final stage....

Argh! I can't unlock the gallery pic in position 4x4!! I swear it's freaking impossible to clear 100% that level, and all of the true final boss levels..

Also, any tips on how to get bigger combos? I'm supposed to get a 20,000 combo in mission 2 but I can't get over 10,000...

edit: nevermind, I think I found out how to get it...

I don't even know how long I was playing that. Super, super addicting. I love the music and artwork too; The sprite style and rotation reminds me of Super Mario World 2.

(Apologies; I've never heard of the "Gal's Panic" franchise...)

If this was a demo, I would absolutely buy the full game in a heartbeat. I'm a bit zoned-out at the moment though; We'll see how I feel in the morning. :)

Edit- I liked seeing both Psyvariar 1 and 2 patterns together in... Oh, I can't even remember which stage. Neat neat stuff! Thanks for mentioning this, raiden. :D

I need to eat...

Gals Panic SS for the Saturn is an absolutely amazing game... it's not a shooter but it's a modern Qix-clone clear the screen while things move and shoot at you from just about everywhere. One of the few games my wife really enjoyes as it has excellent 1P and 2P modes.

Check out the replays. They show how many of the stages in the challenge mode are handled(Though I'm stuck on this one that requires 600 million points.....which requires a shitload of milking)

What are the requirements for the true ending stages? Do you have to just 1CC the game up to that point or get 100% silhouette on every stage?

Wait until you get to one of the later missions. It requires you to capture the boss in a tiny tiny tiny tiny triangle like thing. I saved a replay of me finally completing it and will upload if anybody is interested.

Great game though, and hey it's free.

My lord, what an amazing game. I sat there playing it for probably close to an hour. Is that what Gals Panic SS is like? I hadn't considered getting it, because I thought it was just a pornographic "game". I didn't get far in this game, but it didn't seem to be that dirty, is SS about the same? It's a green label game, must be fairly tame. How many bullets are there in SS, it's not as manic as this game, right?

I liked how each level was an homage to a different shmup. I spent so long trying to do the first mission. Really annoying, that damned evil Vic Viper had some really obnoxious attacks. And I have no idea how to get 100%. The worst was the Garegga level, it had a giant gorilla or bear or something. I spent like 20 minutes on that, burned through most of my credits.

It's not even yellow-labled let alone red-labeled! There are anime girls that reveal down to swimwear... it's tame enough that my wife will play it. Gals Panic SS is a stunning puzzle game - very similiar to this GalPaniX game but you must stay within your lines (ala Qix) and the level of manic bullets is not the same intensity (though Gals Panic SS can get pretty hectic at times... and you need to corner and push the little drones in order to have a chance in the later levels).

Gals Panic is even better as a 2P game... it's vertically split and both players try to get to 80% (or whatever you config it for) uncover on their gals... and you can launch attacks at your opponents.

I highly recommend Gals Panic SS for the Saturn.

Also, in case you didn't know, only the shaded part of the gal needs to be uncovered... the other areas are just filler (at least that's the way it is in Gals Panic... knowing that lets you concentrate on the areas that need to be uncovered to move on).

So that's how you get 100%? You don't need to fill up the whole board (which seems impossible to me), just the girl?

It's tricky

Post by PepsimanVsJoe »

Actually the "easiest" way to 100% a board is to defeat the boss. This is done by boxing them into an area that is not part of the girl's silhouette. Granted it's difficult but it gains the most points, destroys all of the other enemies so you can collect their powerups and *cough* unlocks the picture in the art gallery.

Luckily the bosses get smaller as the area around them decreases. Obviously this requires a lot of patience as over-doing it may cause the boss to run over your lines and thus kill you.

I haven't played the Saturn Version of Gals Panic, but all of the arcade ones work in MAME really well (not that I'd endorse that or anything  ) and they're tons of fun. Those -are- adult rated though... but never get any more explicit than some frontal nudity. And even then you have to pull off miracles to see it.

Some of my favorite MAME games, actually, and not for the nudity. Really.

Wow, this game is pretty friggin cool. I've played alot of these style of games on Mame and they were somewhat fun.

But this one adds alot too it. Nice find.
