Mega Man X, Capcom Classics collections announced

"Capcom announces Capcom Classics, Mega Man X Collection
New compilation of the blue bomber's adventures and 20 classic games is on its way to consoles.
At its recent press event in Las Vegas, Capcom revealed that it was currently working on a new compilation of classic games starring the mighty Mega Man. Dubbed the Mega Man X Collection, the compilation appears to be following in the footsteps of last year's Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the GameCube and PlayStation 2.
While the details about which games from the Mega Man X series will be included haven't been revealed, the footage shown at the event contained clips from several games in the series. More importantly, the trailer for the game showed off what we assume will be one of the unlockables in the game, Mega Man Battle and Chase. The PlayStation game that took assorted characters from the Mega Man universe and dropped them in a kart game was never released in the US.
While no platforms were specified, aside from a vague mention of a multiplatform release, it is expected it's safe to assume the compilation will at least hit the PlayStation 2.
At the same press event, Capcom announced Capcom Classics Collection, a compendium of classic games from the veteran Japanese developer that will draw on its sizable portfolio of games. Specifics on which games will be included weren't given, but Capcom reps on hand stated that the games in the compilation will include old-school favorites, such as some of those seen in the Capcom Generations compilations released in Japan for the Saturn and PlayStation, as well as some games that have never been playable on a home console before.
While Capcom reps remained tight-lipped on the specifics of the games in the compilation, it's probably safe to assume that old-school classics such as Bionic Commando and Final Fight are candidates. As with the Mega Man X Collection, Capcom didn't specify which platform the game would be coming out for, but a PlayStation 2 version is almost guaranteed."

Nah, it'll probably be mostly (if not completely) stuff that was already released on previous console generations...it'd be great if Capcom did manage to put some of its arcade-only shmups on a console (would they still have the rights to Progear and Dimahoo?), but I seriously doubt it...Neon wrote:sweet. hopefully 19XX gets a release...

Ohhhh Sweeet candy. I remember mom always said too much candy would make my teeth hurt, but that's besides the point. What I'm getting at is that these packages will further degrade the public's view on 2D gaming. In the future great 2D gaming will have to come "bundled" or sold on the cheap, both which make me as sad as a huge molar cavity would.
But ehhhhh what am I going to do rambling. I can't help buying good stuff by the ton. Hurrrraaaaahhhh! [where's my party hat?].

Nah, those are too new! Of course, I would love to see home ports of these as well, but I'm being realistic here.BulletMagnet wrote:Nah, it'll probably be mostly (if not completely) stuff that was already released on previous console generations...it'd be great if Capcom did manage to put some of its arcade-only shmups on a console (would they still have the rights to Progear and Dimahoo?), but I seriously doubt it...Neon wrote:sweet. hopefully 19XX gets a release...
If its "Classic" type games, expect to see 1943 Kai or something. Possibly Mercs and the likes. Dungeons & Dragons would be cool.
I always prefered the Mega Man X series over the older NES ones, so maybe this collection will have more of what I'm looking for in a Mega Man game.

Oh hell yes. Excellent news. The MMX collection will probably cover only 1-6 (plus unlockables...maybe the Legends games) since X7, X8 and Command Mission are all relatively new.
Heh, it's sure easy to get a complete collection of Mega Man games these days. Lovin' it.
EDIT: IGN reports that the games included will indeed be Mega Man X1 through X6, plus Battle & Chase. They seem to be of the opinion that there will be no other unlockables.

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

"It would be cool if they re-released the Dungeons and Dragons beat-em-ups."
Acutally Capcom did release a disc which contains those games for the Saturn; it's an import.
Right now, I could care less what collections Capcom puts out until they finally give us the last 3 games in the 1940 series.

Good point. A version of Forgotten Worlds with a reprogrammed control scheme to let you play it "Robotron-style" with analog sticks for 360 degree firing would be a dream come true. I don't think there's a way in Mame to have that control scheme, and alternatives I've tried have made it unplayable...yojo! wrote:Forgotten World would be highly playable with the Dual analog stick on PS2. Forgotten World + legendary wings + Sidearms + Carrier Airwing would be so sweet.
And Carrier Airwing / U.S. Navy would be great to see home at last. I've always liked that sequel much more than its widely acknowledged predecessor Area 88 / U.N. Squadron

I can't believe they missed out Final Fight in the first lot of collections.
I reckon they'll release Final Fight, Chiki Chiki Boys and I wouldn't be supprised if Battle Circuit will be there too.

I got the X collection. It's mostly fine with the exception of some sound and music problems in the first three X games. Sometimes, when you have multiple sounds playing at the same time only one will happen, and sometimes you'll get the screeching sound, ouch. The music gets cuts off suddenly whenever there's a change of song and some of them are out of synch (the most evident is the victory tune, which is still playing when X does the victory sound.)
On the plus side, Capcom got their shizz together and fixed some stuff from MMAC. You have customizable controls, sharp display (MMAC was rather blurry), and the option to save (it's faster too) or not save. The PSX games are perfect and even load faster.
PS. MMX3 is the PSX version, which sounds like a**, but I won't count that as a minus because there are some people who like it (though I can't understand how.)
PS2. Save your cartridges.
