X2 and another question

Post by Tigershark »

Is X2 for PSX any good? I've checked the youtube clip but it doesn't really reveal that much save that the graphics appear pre-rendered.

Secondly, what are the chances of any new Naomi shooters being released on the DC?

To expound...it's a euroshmup, so your view concerning those would be the deciding factor. It's not overly challenging, and is actually rather boring. Your ship becomes so powerful that most enemies die instantly.

You get attacked by one type of enemy at a time... you are never attacked by 2 different enemies at the same time. And you keep being attacked over and over by the same enemy during a certain amount of time. It doesn't matter if you kill all enemies, they will keep spawning up until their "time' runs out and a new wave with a new enemy shows up.

Half of the game you are underpowered, and half of the game you are ridiculously overpowered. If you can reach about level 4 or 5, the rest of the game is a breeze because your ship will have more power ups than 2 Batsugun ships together.

The graphics are pretty good though. If you can get it *VERY* cheap I would say it could be worthy a look, but if you have to spend more than 5 bucks on it, forget about it.

So, £28 is to be avoided then.

Thanks for the heads up. Shame, I like Team 17.

DC question anyone?

I like Team17 too, they just didn't know how to make a good shmup. The first Project X was even worse IMO :D Athoulgh to be honest , their "Andreas/Holmes" duo always had flash above gameplay, but still could pull out some good games like that (Superfrog or Alien Breed, for example).

It's not a bad game. The graphics are nice, and the tunes aren't bad either. The levels stretch for a bit too long, but unlike some other Euroshmups, there aren't 25-50 of them (there's about 10-12 if I recall). The controls are good, and if you get the Japanese version that Capcom published, the difficulty/ship power is more manageable (the UK version is just nuts). The three different ships to choose from is a nice touch too.

If you can find the Japanese version for $30 or less (this is with case and manual/back art), then give it a whirl. It's not going to wow you, but if you like the UK take on shmupping, you'll stand a good chance of enjoying it enough to make the purchase worthwhile.

I enjoyed X2 - i originally bought it for £44.99 way back when it was first released. -Now, I've seen it in shops for £1.99 mainly.

I liked the game and eventually managed to complete it- I think the biggest thing that puts people off is the initial difficulty level. -As previously mentioned, the first four levels are tough, especially if you miss a power up, then after that, its fairly easy.

I eventually managed to track down the Japanese version and found that to be easier than the PAL version- its a better, more rounded and enjoyable experience- so go for the Japanese version if you can.
