Well it’s mentioned in the bible that snakes in paradise didn't crawl like today’s snakes, but they were using another mean of transportation instead! Legs, or maybe even wings, judging by that article. But after they betrayed God & cheated Adam & Eve, they were cursed to crawl for ever on the earth & eat dust & mud.

Also a lot of them ended up in shoot em ups as mid/end level bosses & getting shot down!
