It's going to be hard (read: impossible) to top Space Invaders Extreme.

What it appears to be is a strategy game where you control the aliens. Wonderful. I get the feeling it's only being published by Taito.

sankyuu!

it kind of looks more like a new sim city game rather than space invaders. i'm guessing the get even/i] implies that they've made it to the planet's surface and are going to get their revenge?

This is starting to sound like R-Type Tactics/Command.

It looks like it might be an arcade like action or action/strategy game where you control the aliens and destroy things on the ground. That's what I'm guessing telling from how the game has scoring.

Any game that accompanies explosions with giant, comic book-style exclamations of "DOOOOOOOOOOM!" gets my approval.

Maybe it's some pointer based action strategy game where you heard the invaders by pointing the Wii Remote. Draw shapes to create those square forms in the top screen perhaps?

The way they are in clusters makes me think that. Looks interesting enough..

It will be appearing on Japanese WiiWare later this year. More info, and a video can be found here:

Hmm, from that video it doesn't look much like a strategy game...more like some sort of pseudo-shooter. The plot thickens...

Whatever is going on, the game is clearly making use of the WiiMote's pointer. I'm still not really sure what to make of it.

New screenshots:
http://wiiz.fr/article.php?a=19132

So, judging from the newset screenshots:
- R-Gray and Silver Hawk are actually playable.
- R-Gray can use the Lock-on Lazer, Silver Hawk has the green wave shot.
- We will enjoy abducting COWS?

Here is the offical homepage btw.

I noticed the first boss from Raystorm in one of the shots too. Nice to see some references to some classic Taito shmups. I hope this will play well.

So...is this an RTS? Something like Pikmin? Or something like Darwinia even? I really have no idea.

 Talk about about a way to get me from mildly intrigued to extremely interested. Hopefully the shooting isn't just command based. But yeah, at this point the supposed RTS element is looking to be less and less there. Is multiplayer in? It be sweet if you could take on a friend and choose between R-Gray/Silverhawk or Invaders.

Anyways, great screens (best looking Wii Ware game next to FF MLaK IMHO) and playable fan-servilicous R-Gray and Silverhawk = definite possible fridge cleaning sometime in the future.

So, Edge magazine have run a preview. Get Even casts you as a Space Invader Mothership, and you have to unleash waves of Invaders with a tap of the A button, and gives you various attack modes to unleash.

You appear to have to wipe out buildings and enemies for score, and that's about all it says. There's boss battles, and you can roam around looking for captured Invaders to rescue to build your army.

Without having played a yet unreleased title, I would still have to agree with you. Space Invaders Extreme hasn't left my PSP since it was released.

OK, it's high time for an update on this game. I loved Extreme so have been following Get Even with great interest. According to siliconera.com, Space Invaders Get Even hits the U.S. next Monday (unless the morons at NOA or whoever actually decides the NA VC schedule biff it of course):

http://www.siliconera.com/2008/11/24/sp ... next-week/

According to the article, the base pack is 500 points. For five bucks you get one mission with 3 levels where you use your UFO and its pack of Invader sprites to take down Tokyo Tower and a giant tank boss. Now for the down and dirty. I watched a couple of reviews on youtube for the game from a UK user named DEIVION212, his first review is for the base pack and second review is for the add on content (just type in the game's title, they're in the first handfull of videos that pop up, both give a detailed look at the game and are worth a watch).

The good news? Apparently, it's a fun point and click arena shooter which should appeal to Shmup fans. The bad news? The base pack is supposed to be fun but is just a tease for the three other packs which each cost 500 points. So if you want the fan service goodies like R-Gray, Twinhawk, cooler missions, ect., prepare to drop a total of 1500 more points. But if it's even close to as good of a modern send up as Extreme was (which was also $20), it may be worth it. According to the reviewer, the packs and extra content are well done and add a nice amount of replay value.

But if you're a Wii owner, possibly even worse is the space the game takes up. The base pack is a whopping 314 blocks and the add on packs add another 368 (!) totalling 682 blocks. So get ready to do some epic fridge cleaning if you want this game in your Wii's meager and probably already strained amount of flash memory. And you thought you wanted the SD card update yesterday.

Now to clear up confusion on how the game plays. You use the nunchuk and remote combo. Z button gives your UFO fighter speed, C button is your super bomb (which unleashes a giant mothership which touches down and fries the battlefield Independence Day style, pretty cool), remote aims/points at the target, A shoots. If you're the UFO, you get a temp supply of invaders to shoot at your targets, shaking the nunchuk replenishes them. The R-Gray looks sweet and as mentioned in an earlier report, has its signature lock ons. Twinhawk also looks cool and comes complete with its classic green arch lazer.

Based on the videos, it looks very enjoyable. But thanks to the usual microtransaction gripes and especially Nintendo's moronic and stubborn lack of foresight on storage, it's going to be a bit tougher to decide. Hope this info helps.

Any UK folks here who have this yet and can confirm/contradict/add to what the review said?

I would love to purchase this game (not too many Wiiware games get me to say that), but my installation of the Homebrew Channel has made that impossible, at least for the moment.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

The Japanese sure know how to select an eye pleasing color palette.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.
