How to find out the region of a Xbox360?

Hey guys.
I recently got a Xbox360 from a friend, and he told me that he bought it from someone who claimed that this would be a NTSC-J console.
Is there a way to find out what region this xbox is from?

pop in a game that is ONLY region coded for USA.

Ok, i thought there would be a more convenient method like just checking the serial number :<

gotta revive this thread.
so i was told the console was bought in "uuuh china".
that leaves pretty much only a jap or asia console as a possibility.
however, i tried to start raiden fighters aces in it, and the console would tell me that the game is not for my console. but the gamedisc was recognized and even showing "Raiden Fighters Aces" in the dashboard.
would it do that on a complete "wrong" region console?
