I forgot Progear was published by Capcom, but I think it's more deserving of Famous Manic Week. Also, I didn't mention 1944: The Loop Master because no one seems to like that game very much, though I'm not sure why. I didn't mention U.N Squadron because it's supposed to have some scoring exploit (supposedly on the final boss?). Is Strikers 1945 Plus the one for Neo-Geo?
1. Sure, have it your way. It qualifies for both sides.
2. I don't know either. I've never heard anything about it.
3. I wouldn't know about that either. I don't play U.N. Squadron for score.
4. Yep.[/quote]

Good idea. Just know that if a Cave week is in this, Hotdog Storm will probably be chosen. Just a heads-up.

Great! 1941 is always welcome. Though, we really should give Mars Matrix a chance, Giga Wing was done last year...

5 seems like a solid number. After reading the newer posts, I think my shorten my list to 3 places. It's not a concrete list or anything.
--------
Lemme fix this up:

=CARAVAN WEEK=
-Seirei Senshi Spriggan
-Final Soldier
-Nexzr Special

=DOUJIN WEEK=
-Rally Raid
-nomltest
-Ultimate Stage

=CAPCOM WEEK=
-19XX
-Carrier Air Wing (either one is fine with me)
-1941/Varth

=TAITO WEEK=
-Gun Frontier
-Mega Blast
-Rayforce

="FAMOUS" MANIC WEEK=
-Progear no Arashi (if it isn't under Capcom Week)
-Mars Matrix (if it isn't under Capcom Week)
-Batsugun

Yes? No? If you say so...

Edit: Somehow I clicked "Edit" instead of "New Reply".

Capcom has Eco-Fighters, Side Arms and Forgotten Worlds, all of them can be substitutes if Mars Matrix and Progear are considered on other weeks.

For caravan games, Fortress Macross 2 is the best option IMO, it HAS to be on the shortlist.

For the taito week... RAYFORCE for Christ's Sake. Unless you don't want an obvious winner, because I think it will easily get every vote, being Taito's best shmup by far. Also, Akkinvader is a good option IMO, if it qualifies.

For Doujin, I would like to recommend Storm Caliber. It's pretty good, with a grazing-based score system. I used to play this a lot like 6 years ago on my old job, lots of people there were trying to reach the hi-score. I think it's a pretty good game, it should run on everyone's system, and it's kinda underrated.

For dragon week: Dragon breed, and there is some other really old school tough game i played a while back with a curly dragon as the main character. Also dragon saber is similar to dragon spirit, but its an option. I don't think RFJ should count, plus i don't actually want to play the first level 500 times ever again.

Trigon has a sweet ass dragon bomb thing, that shouldl count.

Saint dragon was the very old school tough game i was thinking of, its a fucking gem!

syvalion is similar as well with the curly dragon thing, though its more of a run n gun type thing so idk how people would feel about it... plus its not that great imo, but yea its there.

For famous manic, mars matrix is a fine choice imo. Also why not strikers 3? It seems the most "manic" out of any of the stikers. And why not garegga?

LGB: I don't really want 5-game choice suggestions, especially when I'm not 100% sure I want 5 games to be available choices during voting weeks :-/

I didn't mention U.N Squadron because it's supposed to have some scoring exploit (supposedly on the final boss?). Is Strikers 1945 Plus the one for Neo-Geo?

Shatterhand: I recently added Macross 2 to the shortlist, I'll try it out later (either tonight or tomorrow). Also, if you look at the (very) tentative Taito shortlist I made, Rayforce is on it. I agree with you, it's one of Taito's best games, especially since we can't play G-Darius during Taito week.

And I'm sorry, but no MSX week. Maybe you can make an MSX tournament :P

Thank you for the Doujin suggestion, but I think we have enough possible choices as is. If they all turn out to be bad games, then I'll consider Storm Caliber

Stanski: Since there seem to be so many Dragon-based or games with Dragon in their name, I agree that RFJ shouldn't be on the list. Also, I knew about Sylvalion, but I can't stand the game, and everyone else who knows about the game doesn't like it either.

Garegga is in the current manic shortlist. I didn't include Strikers III because it has medal chaining, and I thought that would frustrate a lot people.

hmmm...it seems like Dragon week could happen, I wonder which week it would replace in that case. I updated the list with possible choices for the week, if we want it.

Also, I updated the doujin list with possible doujins in the first post. I forgot about the twinkle soft games LGB posted.

Mars Matrix? For Capcom Week, when it's developed by Takumi, and the only thing Capcom did was provide the CPS2 hardware?
If that's the case, why isn't Great Mahou, Progear and 1944 on there, too? ( ̄へ ̄)

Capcom week can be narrowed down, right now, to:

1943Kai
19xx
Eco Fighters
Gun.Smoke
Carrier Air Wing
Forgotten Worlds

Still looking at the games. Twiddle said he'd prefer Varth over Eco Fighters, haha.

IIRC there are mad glitches and stuttering in the expert mode after stage 2. I'm not sure the latest mame versions have corrected this yet.

The arcade version of mars matrix counter stops. For a week competition that most likely wouldn't be an issue.

Icarus: I guess I thought there would be a lack of games, which clearly isn't the case.

Capcom Week: Well it looks like we don't quite agree on the choices, but I guess that's why this topic exists, to narrow them down :P

Chariot: I knew about this game, and I'm not sure why I didn't include it. I don't really know anything about it :-/

Mars Matrix: I know it can be counter-stopped, but that's going to be a non-issue for most people since it's so hard. If more than one person ends up counter stopping it, I can either go by who counter stopped first, or who got farther (this would require picture proof or a replay though).

DMC: I FINALLY understand your scoring suggestion, and it makes sense. It would make calculations less difficult since there would only be one system for it. I'll post about it later.

Freddiebamboo: You're right, the third stage of Macross II expert course glitches up horribly :(. However, medium course would work just fine.

I remember people complaining about infinite milking on bosses of Gunsmoke. I also remember someone pointing out that if someone can infinitely milk a boss in Gunsmoke, then he deserves 1st place because it gets insanely hard to keep milking it after a certain point.

Also, 1942 > 1943kai... mainly on the soundtrack :P

And medium course would be a good choice as far as I can tell. It really has a ton of scoring opportunities in it. I'm always sad about the poor emulation, though. It's one of my favorites.

Zebra Airforce: I only played through Macross 2 once, but Medium would definitely work for a score challenge (I wasn't trying to say otherwise). I'm not even sure how to unlock all of the scoring items :o

Anyways, I agree with you, Macross 2 should definitely be a choice for caravan week.

Oh yeah, I played Xed today, it would be a good choice for doujin week. The scoring isn't too strict, and it has some very challenging bullet patterns in stage 4 and 5.

Icarus: Do you have to beat Patriot Dark to unlock extra mode? If that's the case, we either need a file to unlock it, or extra mode isn't possible.

AC Mars matrix is still fun but a joke to play for score.

...

I think the game selection is already off to a bad start. The quality of potential games looks to be above average at best. No better than it was last time and maybe worse.

Aside from things that were completely ignored (doujin), there are not many examples of available games with good scoring systems that haven't already been "covered" by previous developer weeks.

Suggestions:
-reducing the number of games to choose from was a good idea, but 3 would be even better.
-bring back Raizing/Cave/Psikyo weeks.
-keep doujin
-the final week would just be three quality games from any developer, no theme. Example: Raiden Fighters Jet, Varth or 19xx, Rayforce.

The only other thing I would like to see is a classic arcade week (pre-85), but that would probably best be saved for next year since there are five solid weeks right there.

GRID SEEKER?

Varth really is not a good game to play for a one week tournament.

Completely agree with this. The taito games just aren't strong enough to warrant their own week, Raizing/Cave/Psikyo are by far the most popular developers and deserve individual weeks. And if nothing else, the shortlist going down to 3 would get rid of the 2 shittest games from each voting week and we all know by now that people only vote for the very worst games in this tournament. Participants need protecting from themselves.

How about "good game week". That would keep the bad games out for at least a week.

Nice idea, and the previous winners of the tournament get to pick the shortlist.

Also, Team Fortress 2 week, gogogo

MSX week should have Aleste Gaiden on there for shits and giggles (and more shits as people die from the realization that yes, the Aleste name isn't cruise control for cool)

Exactly. Taito week should be smothered to death right now. Capcom week sounds cool if it's basically CPS2 week.

First of all, Rob's suggestion on shortlisting the amount of games to three per week might actually be feasible to eliminate the "worst case scenarios" with more ease.

But MX7 actually gave me a somewhat more fresh idea: we've already had themes by subgenres and developers, how about hardware platforms? So, for instance, Capcom week should be changed to CPS-2 hardware week. How about that? Ever thought about Toaplan hardware week? ;)

Can't say I'm big on Taito week, whose idea was that (I hope not Enhasa's).

Again, I think we should have a 8-bits week. And were's Tumiki Fighters on the doujin week?
EDIT: In the case of a hardware week, it should be the Neogeo week.
