Space Invaders Extreme High Score Thread

Post scores as such:

Name - Score - level - Path(s) taken

E.g.

jp - 20 - ALL - 3-A, 4-B, 5-C

Also specify what platform you're playing on.

All defaults.
Preferably be playing in Ranking Mode, but this is up for debate. We could have an Arcade Mode section and a Ranking Mode section, though that seems a bit pointless.
Since I imagine there are differences between the DS and PSP versions, they will each have their own board.

So... blast away!! :)

Nintendo DS:
Normal Mode:
01. jp - 10,005,170 - ALL - 3B, 4C, 5C
02. MathU - 8,916,130 - 5C - 3B, 4C, 5C
03. guigui - 8.850.790 pts - ALL - 3A-4A-5A.
04. Pit - 8,529,030 - ALL - 3-A, 4-A, 5A
05. gs68 - 7,488,980 - ALL - 3-A, 4-B, 5-B
06. DJ Incompetent - 7,411,980 - 3-B, 4-C, 5-D
07. -Bridget- - 6,760,470 - ALL - 3-A, 4-A, 5-A

Extreme Mode:
01. jp - 5,230,320 - Stage 4
02. Pit - 2,260,870 - Stage 3
03. gs68 - 1,800,500 - Stage 2

PSP:
Normal Mode:
01. BulletMagnet - 6,230,650 - All - 3A, 4A, 5A
02. spongdangly - 5,703,000 - ALL - 3A, 4A, 5A
03. Matsunaga- 4,982,920- 5a- 3a, 4a, 5a
04. drboom- 3,653,440 - 3-A, 4-A
05. spadgy - 3,185,720 - 3-A, 4-A

I got to the final boss today. I only had one life when I got there, so it wiped me out pretty quick.

I'm still playing it EASY and taking the A-Routes, since the difficulty gets crazy jacked up for the B routes (especially the boss fights, holy shit!)

I guess so. The one that just came out.

Also, if anyone is interested:

Breaks

Increase your rate to x10 (i.e. shoot enemies REALLY quick) and this will create a "Break", wherein your rate bar will drop and once it hits the bottom it resets back to 0.

Also:
Fuck the final boss.

Pit - 6,579,510 - 5-A - 3-A, 4-A

On the Nintendo DS. It's the first time I completed it in Ranking Mode. Normally I died in stage 4, but this time it was even a 1LC with 3 lives left at the end. The only problem: I think I daydreamed during stage 3, I got no single fever at all and scored only about half a million points.

Edit:

Pit - 7,253,740 - 5-A - 3-A, 4-A

Wow. I just had my best run yet.... thanks for the info on the Breaks! That and understanding the dang indicators really helped.

-Bridget- - 6760470 - ALL - 3-A, 4-A, 5-A

I think I also chained the entire 5th stage... my counter was 515 at the end.... cant believe I did that. Didnt die on 5th boss! Im all happy with myself now :P

Ended with 4 lives in reserve, too.

But I think my score woulda been a good deal higher if I hadnt let that *ONE* stupid rushing-invader crash into the bottom like it did. CURSE those blasted things!! Most annoying enemy in the game so far. Just.... very...... ARGH. The teleporting dudes are also very annoying.

Next I'll start working on the other paths.....

Does anyone know if they offer better scoring, or something like that?

Oh, and I wanted to also suggest, put up another spot here in this topic for scores in "Extra" difficulty for Ranking mode.

High scores in THAT nightmare would be impressive indeed.

Did I mention I love this game? Cause I do.

I think I'm finally satisfied with my score:

Pit - 8,529,030 - ALL - 3-A, 4-A, 5A

The last boss was horrible. I started with 2 lives in reserve, but lost them already after a few seconds because I was simply too nervous. At that moment I thought already that it's over. But as by a miracle I managed it.

The highscore in the online ranking was made through 5-D, so I think there you can get more points.

Does the PSP version not have Ranking Mode? I'm guessing not since it doesn't have online leaderboards, or do you have to unlock it like you do the stage select mode? I "acquired" this for my PSP because I can't find the DS version anywhere, but it seems the DS version is the superior one. Guess I'll keep hunting....damn gamestop.

Not as far as I can tell...I doubt it's an unlockable either.

Anyways, I picked up the PSP port recently and have had a few goes at it, so I might as well submit a score, so I can at least say I was at the top of the list at one point, heh heh. As was mentioned, there's no Ranking mode here, but then again the only setting you can adjust is the amount of lives you start with (default 3, as you can guess), so my scores will be from regular ol' "Arcade" mode.

BulletMagnet - 3,834,720 - 4-A - 3-A

One feature I'm not sure the DS has is the somewhat oddball "continue" feature...in the PSP version, if you continue, you start at the beginning of the stage you died at, but your score doesn't reset - instead it goes back to where it was when you started there before, basically a "restart". However, I haven't used it myself, as I'm not sure whether or not using it also brings your lives back to 3 (it probably does), so you might want to include an addendum to the rules when it comes to the use of that feature...

Sorry for the double post, but two things...first, an improved score...

BulletMagnet - 4,980,480 - All - 3A, 4A, 5A

Second, after finishing the game, it unlocked "Extreme" mode, an alternate Arcade mode with harder stages but no branching paths. Supposedly the DS version has something like this too...are you planning on putting up tables for this mode as well? Or maybe for Stage Attack mode (though that'd take up a lotta space...)?

Also, this doesn't affect me, but do you plan on differentiating between DS players who use the paddle peripheral and those stuck with the d-pad? I know the Arkanoid leaderboards do...

If people post scores then I'll put them up. I was going to post a score up to get it started... but I can't break 5mill in Extreme Mode. Its just ridiculous.

Thats why I said I preferred scores from Ranking Mode. :) It doesn't allow the use of the paddle.

And I guess I should update my score:
jp - 7,715,360 - ALL - 3A, 4A, 5A

I've actually been working on doing a 3B - 4C - 5D run, and I can get towards the end of 5D without dying, but towards the end there 5D goes nuts...

Its a shame, because if I ever did that I'd definitely beat Pit's score. :P

Game has some cheap moments, but fun nonetheless. I had a game after this one where I was on the last part of five and my PSP shut off due to low battery. Haven't had the will to go back and try again.

Been playing the DS version way more than the PSP version.

My score from DS's Normal Ranking mode:
gs68 - 7,488,980 - ALL - 3-A, 4-B, 5-B

I tried to start a stage-by-stage ranking on GameFAQs's SIE DS board, and that failed.

My short-term goal: Unlock all of the stages and get at least 1.3 mil on all stages. So far the latter is complete, just gotta clear 5-C and 5-D.

Mid-term goal: 2 mil on Stage 5-B and 5-A, at least 1.5 mil on all others.

Long-term goal: Get USA on the Normal Rankings.

Some tips:
- Wait until you get a BREAK, then do a Round. You'll get longer fevers (this is even mentioned in the manual).
- R button is your best friend. On top of saving special weapon energy, you can avoid hitting aliens you don't want to hit.
- Don't use lasers against Reflector aliens (the ones who reflect your shots), and likewise don't use bombs against Assault aliens (the ones who attempt to fly down when you hit them)
- If you shoot enemy shots or lasers, it won't add to your chain, but it does reset the chain meter. Take advantage of this to maintain a chain if there's little to shoot.
- On Stage 1, you can very easily get the ALL LIT bonus. Shoot the first wave row-by-row for all three ROW lights and SAME COLOR light; as you do so, you'll get CHANGE TO UFO which allows you to get SAME SHAPE light. Then on the next few waves, sweep the screen with the laser to easily get all 5 COLUMN lights.

Hmm, maybe I should make a GD thread for this game, given that I want to play this game on a serious level.

Hey Jp - I seem to be stalking your hi-score threads!

Anyway: PSP version:

spadgy - 3,185,720 - 3-A, 4-A

You mention ranking mode Jp - no mention of it in the PAL PSP version or manual. Just arcade mode. Anyway - I'm definately starting a run from the beginning and not using the option to continue from the level reached on the previous turn.

gs68's post has made me realise I'd better look at the manual - I'd been working out the mechanics for myself. Didn't even realise the R button was used!

Been working (mostly unsuccessfully) on getting through the tougher stages, but this time stuck to the easy route and improved my score -

BulletMagnet - 6,230,650 - All - 3A, 4A, 5A

PSP version, obviously.

Modestestest improvement...

PSP Version:

spadgy - 3,527,670 - 4-A - 3A, 4A

This bloody game! When I manage 1.2 mill on stage one I barely get into stage 3. When I do get right to the end of stage 4 and see the boss my points are awful! Still, I'm learning more each play!

gs68 - do make a GD thread on this (if you haven't already). I'd love to know the which combos of two sets of four dictate which Round!

Wow. That sucked.

And who the hell is MAX? He's #1 on Global Ranking with 33.8 mil and only Stage 4-A.
