Coolest Voice Sound in a Shmup

Post by elfhentaifan »

whats the most awesome voice or sound in a shmup for you?
Be it the voice when you picked up a powerup or when you made a chain in ikaruga etc.

For me it is the "EXTEND" voice in Ibara, its unbelievable delicious having gained an extend after a massive milking (this propably is why people enjoy the arrange mode.

It also sounds just cool when your shield in gigawing has rechared.

Absolutely random topic btw

Pretty much every voice sample in Ibara is fantastic.

Adding:
"Arms Installation is complete. Good luck!" (Axelay)

WEAPON VELY AP (Battle Garegga power up.. I swear to fuck that's what the guy is saying)

"Rear commission cheque" (Soukyuugurentai accidental power-up)

Kiken--

Let me second Axelay's "Arm Installation is complete. Good luck." WAY back in the day, the seriousness of that sample made me feel like a bad ass, and infused the game with a coolness it might not of had otherwise.

I don't know what he says, but the first boss on Soldier Blade says something when he flees. Just a cool robotic blurb :D

Also, Yusuke when you select him at the title screen in ESP Ra.De. :D

Yeah, another vote for the dude in Ibara. Whenever you get the sway cannon (I think it's sway) it seriously sounds like he's saying 'violent rape' or 'vyo way'. I assume he's saying 'something sway'... does anybody know what he actually says?

Nice double post there buddy. It's "5 way" by the way

Does it really say "Rear commissions cheque" in Souky? Kinda weird :?

Also, "This is Exceliza, I will depart now." "Roger, good luck." (I can't believe how many times people have misheard this)

Didn't you see my edit? Also, does he say it more like 'five-o way' or 'five-u way'? I could swear the first word has two syllables.

The announcer in Donpachi. Man that game had personality!

"Wow! Look at the size of that battleship! Keep your finger on the trigger, rookie!"

"Look at what we got here, multi assault tank! Watch yourself kid!"

Also, the warning voice in DOJ, "watch out, watch out!" before each boss, I love that.
"I think Ikaruga is pretty tough. It is like a modern version of Galaga that some Japanese company made."

All the voices in Dimahoo are awesome, and it's probably one of the reasons I like the game that much. I really like the "Please continue" one (though I don't like when I actually reach the continue screen...).

I suppose he says "OK" but for some reason I always hear "COCAINE".

Gotta agree with Ibara having one of the better Shmup announcers. GATTURING.

Some of my choice favorites:

*Loses last life in Thunder Force II (X68000 version)*
Announcer: SHIT!
Also, I can never get enough of hearing "Side-A-Winder!"

Until I saw them written, I always thought they were "LOCK ON!" and "ALARM! ALARM!". Oh, misinterpretations. CONDITION RED! is still my most favorite from Bosconian.

Definitely the Ketsui game over scream (it gives a voice to how you're feeling right then which you never could on your own).

And ESP Galuda's "game over" voice wins for the WORST.

I like the lady that comes on before each boss in Ketsui, something infectious about her voice. I always say her line with her.

That is some kind of stock sound scream. It is also in the intro of the Aaahh!!! Real Monsters cartoon.

You're thinking of the Wilhelm Scream. This one is more of a screeching cry of ultimate agony. The kind of agony you can only feel when you die before reaching a new high score.

edit: oh no I'm mistaken. some website told me that ahhh! real monsters used the Wilhelm scream but that's no true. Here's a link to the sound effect:
http://www.freewebs.com/notthewilhelmsc ... nload.html

It is officially called "Screams 3; Man, Gut-wrenching Scream And Fall Into Distance"

After you die in both Dangun Feveron and Armed Police Batrider (Dangun's is a little funnier)
People I have dealt with successfully: bleem (x2), spazicon, sven666, sparky, iatneH, Dragon1952, kozo, Ghegs

*EKKESSUTEND!*

I love that too, as well as the jingle that play with that. Even the start screen "EEEBAWWRAAH" is great. Why oh why am I too broke to buy a jap PS2, that game and a new TV? :?

But the Garegga announcer is sweet, too, if only a little hard to hear. "Ekkfftend" - "Blablabla leffel APP"

Don´t forget that he also says that in Batrider when you drop max medals. ...I mean, as if you need someone else to say that for you  He also pronounces it more like "Now!" On the other hand, the Dangun guy makes me angry for some reason.

Vote seconded on DOJ.

"Presented by...CAVE." (from anywhere) Instills fear upon hearing it, or even seeing the logo.

I can't believe nobody mentioned:

"DESTROY THE CORE!"

Well, I love most of the voices in Gradius. In V, I like the "Come on, we're just getting started."

Another vote for DonPachi and the dude speaking silly comments.

Also voting for the roboto voice from Ikaruga. "Accept!", "Energy Max" (especially suit in the nice laser missile duel with the Tageri), "Press Start Button".

Salamander voices are cool too, although they are in the same vein as Gradius with all the "option", "laser", "speed up", etc.
