Denjin Arcade in Southern California has Ibara etc.

Hey shooters,

If any of you live in Southern California, you should check out not only the Mushi Futari at Arcade Infinity in Rowland Heights, but also Denjin Arcade, soon to be opened in Simi Valley.

I chatted with Shogo, the owner of the arcade over at SRK, and he confirmed to me that Denjin will have

Pro Gear, Ibara, Shiki Gami No Shiro III, Giga Wing 1 & 2, Strikers 1945 Plus.

And he's indicated an interest in getting newer Cave shooters including Muchi Muchi Pork and Mushihimesama (futari?). Here are some pictures of the spot and the address below.

Denjin Arcade is not open yet but will hopefully open by the end of August.

Shogo is considering recording score runs for people if asked. Looks like a really sick arcade right in Socal! Anybody down there should go check it out.

Only if there were new arcades opening up in Northern and Central California, would that be a good thing to include some kick-ass Cave arcade shmup titles as well. But alas, it ain't gonna happen in my lifetime unless someone bites the bullet and does so. ^_~

Would Dave K. be willing to open up such an arcade establishment for others to patronize, especially with his really nice personal collection of arcade shmup PCBs?

I recall that Dragon1952 was thinking about opening up such an arcade in possibly Southern California but it has been put on hold for the meantime.

Of course, it takes capital to pull off an expensive business venture such as an arcade. As the old saying goes: "the newest and greatest" in arcade games & pinball draws in the customers. ^_~

You'd think that such a Japanese arcade scene would be thriving in San Francisco's Japantown area but that isn't the case. Such an arcade with all Japanese candy cabinets...that arcade, I would patronize with no problem. ^_~

Wow, great to see more people attempting to open their own arcade in Southern CA. Looks like a great start. I was just down there last weekend.

Someday, until then garage arcade (rent free) works best.

Personally, if I were to open one in SF, I'd go for the North Beach area where all the good bars and eating establishments are within walking distance. Japantown is just kinda on its own in central SF.

Yeah Denjin is looking real good. I'll update everyone when they get a definite opening date/final line up.

I've always been amazed that SF basically has no arcades. I believe there was one at the Embarcadero? Is that still around? Still, hardly anything. I would think opening one would be really welcome. Especially a Japanese style ge-sen.

This sounds really awesome. I am planning on going on a trip soon and have been looking into arcades along the way (I haven't been to an arcade in ages as the closest thing this town has is a family fun center with Galaga, and yes, I still play it lol). I kind of want to go on an arcade pilgrimage of sorts

btw...what exactly is a "cave shmup"?

Wow, I wish I still lived in California. There is absolutely nothing in terms of arcades here....the last one I went to here in Colorado had DDR...and some crane machines and ticket games. I suppose I am left with my pcb's and consoles....hell I can't even find anyone to play shooting games with.

It just so happens I live in Simi Valley. I'll definitely check this place out as I have not played the more recent cave offerings being that they have not been ported to consoles. Hopefully this place stocks Muchi Muchi Pork and Mushi Futari.

And if you don't see them there at this new arcade, ask the owner to get them. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Sounds like the arcade owner is into arcade shmups which is good for business. ^_~

If you take a good look at the JPEGs, you'll see the very popular Taito Egret II cabinets alrighty. Since matsu ain't selling any more Egret II's, that's the end of the line for him carrying such cabinets. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. ^_~

Yeah, but notice with all those rows and rows of egret II's and AWSD cabs, not a single one has a tated screen.

So I think its pretty much going to be just a fighter arcade with little to no shmups. Not that its a bad thing, as I love fighters, but just lack of variety.

This is a very respectable amount of shmups for an American arcade. Easily the most I've ever seen in one location. Very noble of the owner to bother, really, since only a small handful of Americans actually pop credits into these kinds of games.

Ah, forgot the OP mentioned that. So only 2 of those games listed are vertical, the rest are horizontal...ok thats why I couldn't find tated screens in the pics. Good to know, and agree respectible number compared to arcades that are left alive in the US anyway.

Also, those pics are pretty old, so some cabinets are in different locations than in the pictures, and I don't think all the cabinets in those pictures had games in them at that time.

And for the cabinets, it's mainly atomiswaves and egret 2s, but there are also versus city cabinets and net city sitdowns... and a pacman.
