Gave it a spin tonight on the Duo after YEARS of never really playing it. I got to the 8th Stage and...something killed me fast; don't remember what it was. It's like Dragon Spirit on meth...lots of "twitchy" moments.
Need to get back in there and try to kick some ass. Damn, IGS! Why didn't you stick to verts!
This is what I like from stgs. You can go back to them and most of the time they still feel fresh and nice. I mean, I can't recall how many months I've been playing DoDonPachi or DonPachi but those things are just damn addictive.
Especially DDP and its rock n' roll soundtrack. If only more games could use more rocking tunes and less generic punchi-punchi techno... DDP Stage 2/5 song is just the type of tune I would love to hear more in stgs. All that riffing, good pacing...
To sum it up: yes, still playing DoDonPachi but I added Reflex trial and, take cover, Touhou Chireiden: Subterranean Animism 0.02b.
NOW REACHES THE FATAL ATTRACTION BE DESCRIBED AS "HELLSINKER". DECIDE DESTINATION.
Yes, Cyber Core is definitely Dragon Spirit on meth. By the way, the level 2 speed when you start to increase to level 3 is slower than the level 2 speed on the way back to level 1.
I dl'ed R-Types from PSN tonight and played a little R-Type 1. It never fails how enemies always seem to take a shot at me right when I have no way to dodge. I managed to make it to level 2, but not much further than that.

I did NOT know that, thanks! How did you figure that out? I guess from playing it a lot...So, there are technicallly 4 different speeds. This knowledge will definitely come in handy. I assume those are "Blue Vinegar Flies" at Stage 8 that are coming from out of nowhere and killing me. I'm going to try to get there w/ full power and Mantis shield - maybe that << speed will work best in those areas; may have to do it a couple of times.
Space Giraffe is always a goodie. Trying to get some of the achievements now.
Wanted to play back through TFIV from checking out the thread here. Gonna probably play III afterwards. Don't remember this one being so easy, though. Just got the Thunder Blade.
Hellsinker. The more I play it, the less complicated the game gets. Now I just need to learn enough Japanese to understand all the plot devices (if there are any, which I would assume there is) and actually beat this sucker.
Dammit, now I want to play Thunder Force III again.
What is it about TF3 that makes it so enjoyable to jump in the game, quickly get the rhythm, and run with it to the end even if you've played it several times before?
I've been playing a bit of Raiden III today. Sucking as usual on Normal, so I played a bit on Very Easy to satisfy my inner desire to blow things up...
...I mean blow stuff up in video games...yeah, that's what I meant.
After a long sabatical I got XBox Live along with Ikaruga and Space Giraffe. I did dabble with Ikaruga a few years ago and enjoyed it a lot. I used to be able to get to the end of stage 3 and very occasionally the beginning of stage 4 but now it seems the second boss with the comedy bra is giving me a few issues.
As for Space Giraffe, I haven't really got the system down yet so I'm unsure how to improve. I will keep with it though because it seems a fair bit of fun.
Rediscovering Giga Wing 2, since i replaced my long death Dreamcast.
Never really played it (or any shmup for that matter) for score, but that changed. And it changed the way to play it drastically.
I played through the SNES version of Space Megaforce / Super Aleste and rather enjoyed it. Good weapon options and multiple functionaility, sweet sounding explosions, upbeat piano techno music, it really rubbed me the right way. I uh, credit fed through it, though. Only died like 9 times or so though. Seems like a good port for the SNES.
Also, I've been playing Gradius V and I recently nailed a 3.9 million score with Type 3. I'm pretty proud of that, but at the moment I feel a little sick of playing it so I'll probably hold off a while and then get back into it and try to tackle 4 million, as well as getting to loop 3. I've really enjoyed the progression of the gameplay through loop 2, you get used to having more bullets on the screen in loop 2, and it makes loop 1 seem like the kiddie pool.
Whenever I boot up Mushihimesama I seem to get discouraged. =/

Still working on Gradius I (PSP) Arranged Mode Easy Difficulty. I can now usually make it to the last level with 3 or so lives. I really need to create a couple of save files there (1 w/ power-ups, and one without) so I can practice.
Woo-hoo! I 1cc'd Easy on Gradius today! Actually, my game started yesterday (8/5) at work during my break. I 1-lifed all the way through stage 4, but I had to stop because my break was ending, so I created a save file right after killing the boss. I started back on my break today wondering how long my luck would last. Level 5, no death. Level 6, no death. Level 7...No Death!
