Arcade shmup cabs shown at 2008 California Extreme...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

If you're fortunate enough to attend this year's California Extreme 2008 show, they are currently showing off a few dedicated USA cabinets complete with USA marquee signs.

Here's a list of the ones shown today and yesterday:

USA woody upright cabinet with Capcom's CPS2 Dimahoo (USA region)

USA woody upright cabinet with Seibu Kaihatsu's Raiden Fighters SP1 cart running on SP1 mobo setup (USA region)

USA woody upright cabinet with Seibu Kaihatsu's Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive running on SP1 mobo (USA region)

USA woody upright cabinet with Namco's System 12 powered Tenkomori Variety Shooting PCB (is the rare USA region and complete with full-sized USA marquee sign as well)

Yes, you'd need to pay for admission (unless you want to volunteer your time and services, then it would be free admission for you).

It's been held inside the Parkside Hall at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California since 2000. This year's show is it's 12th year running since it's inception back in 1997.

Among the newest Stern released pinballs at this year's CAX '08 show, a rare "Black Spiderman" pinball was shown. Only 500 were ever produced. Due to it's very limited production number, it will increase in value as time goes on by. ^_~

The cool animated Laserdisc game called "The Act" was playable with it snazzy 16:9 LCD widescreen display format. The animation was very crisp and detailed compared to the retro 1980's arcade laserdisc games with their 4:3 screen format. It came out in 2006 with a MSRP of $4,500 USD brand new and boxed up. The only control consists of a simple but cool looking silver metallic backlit "video editing rotatary knob" and nothing else to play the game. It eventually was sold on eBay to the lucky few who snagged one for their very own. I've never seen or heard of it until this weekend and it drew plently of crowds who were dazzled by the sexy and charming nurse (with her impressive hourglass figure and busty rack -- quite an eyeful indeed). A joint collabration between both USA and Canadian business ventures made this arcade FMV game a reality.

An USA woodie upright cabinet of Fabtek produced Raiden II was shown but it wasn't powered up for the show. Oh well, perhaps another time. ^_~
