I understand partially where you're coming from but sega has pumped out some grade a stuff still.
You thought GSH was a shit remake?!?! To each his own but it sounds like a witch hunt to me... you aren't gonna be happy no matter what they do at this point. I mean you just complained about TF6 not being made by the same folks at tecnosoft and are blaming sega, but GSH was made by the same folks that made GH with sega as a publisher but you still hate it.
Just like some are gonna call this game shit unless it's on a console they own or like more.
Honestly man, I hate Sega so much these days I'm giving serious thought to selling off my entire Sega collection and being done with it.
well sorry.... I read the above comment you made in the THUNDER FORCE 6 thread. How could I have been so stupid.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
GSH isn't an awesome game. Astro Boy however, is. I'd say there's a chance this one might be good.
I agree with jp that sega has been shit these days - once poor hardware marketing, today cheapo software house. It's perhaps better now than in the grim Saturn days... At least once in a while we get stuff like OutRun2 or Yakuza.
Of course, TF VI might be better than slice bread AND gradius V together, but this won't change anything for someone who's just interested in seeing if the original Tecnosoft guys are in the credits roll. Once labeled as an heartless outsourced game, it will remain so in the eyes of the fundamentalists.
Tecnosoft is no more. Just like Silent team. BUT - while I think no one can recreate Silent Hill's atmosphere, I'm fairly convinced a committed and willing Sega team can at least grasp a glimpse of Thunderforce's spirit.
Or at least... That's what I need to believe now, after ten years of wait...
If this game is essentially a remake of the previous games in the series then it possible they will have remix versions of Thunderforce III songs? That would be awesome.
GSH was an awsome game... it may not be the best ever but neither was the original GH. It might not be YOUR cup of tea but that doesn't mean it's not a stand out platformer in the days of them being nearly gone.
To each his own but some are incredibly jaded on here.
There have been alot of sequals with different teams behind them that have exceeded, matched, came close, or flat out sucked. It's not that black or white.
SF2 rocked, then that dude left and made SF EX after a point..... someone else made 3S ect.
Is sega as good as the golden days.... no, not by a long shot but there have been games that I love from then since that are what I had hoped.

GSH wasn't as good as the first, but I thought it was a very good game. I was kinda peeved at it's "remake" aspect, and the lack of mixing weapons together. However, it has lots of energy, looked great, and was a lot of fun.
Astro Boy is also very good(a bit better than GSH). It's one of those "pick up and play anytime" kind of games that they don't seem to make much of anymore.
If Thunderforce VI turns out to be as good as either one of those titles, I would consider it a success, and would be QUITE happy.
Actually, what worries me is games like R-Type Final, where I was like "WHAT HAPPENED HERE?".
GSH was a fun but obviously-rushed title that had a smattering of completely awesome segments scattered among a bunch of disappointingly barren/boring ones.
Astro Boy was a thoroughly dull experience from start to finish. All the polish in the world can't fix a game that stops you every two screen lengths to pick off another half-dozen robots that are every bit as boring to fight as the last thousand ones. (How fun would every classic platformer and run-and-gunner be if you had to stop in your tracks to kill every single boring enemy instead of being able to blast through the levels at your own pace?)
Segagaga was the shit. If nothing else, this Zolger fellow has a ton of enthusiasm and love for the stuff he gets to take part in. He just needs a solid team under him to follow through.
I played Astro Boy at a TGS. It put me to sleep. Apparently the western version is way better, but why couldn't they have gotten it right the first time?

The USA version only fixes the difficulty, some user-interface gripes, and a few other miscellaneous things I'm probably forgetting about.
this game really looks pretty decnt for a PS2 game to me so far.
I can't believe this is real...... video game dreams can come true.

judgeging by its screenshot, looks like some aspect from previous TF have been included here like the reuse of old type CRAW unit, "Gargoyle" and "Twin Vulcan"... i wonder about aditional gauge on the bottom side of the screen. I still hope there is voice acting between the pilot ( if thunder Force still workingg on squadron ). Multiple ending like TF V ? that would very interesting !!
The game doesn't look bad to me either. I mean it IS PS2. I think everyone has been a bit spoiled by the next gen systems or something. Yeah, it doesn't look as good as Gradius V, but still....
I just hope it turns out better than TFV. That game always struck me as a bit hollow, despite some nifty stuff towards the end.
The guy who's directing it seems to be any interesting director. At least we have a guy with some decent vision at the top.
Of course, this game could suck all to hell, or be mediocre...but I think there's enough to be cautiously optimistic.
Well, i`m playing a game not because it graphic, but more for the excitment of the game play. believe or not now days i still playing with my 8 bit nintendo console. So, i would think so much about graphic of TF VI... well, at least as long as the design of the main ship and its enemy stil as cool as the fifth. Thank goodness its develop for PS 2. Now that TF VI officialy announce, i just think:" there still any sequel of it ? TF VII ? TF VIII ? what gameplay system would be added later ( i hope TfF on the future not turned into tactic like R-Type... it ridiculous...at least for me)

The gauge is for Over Weapon.

The gameplay still causes drowsiness, though.
Try playing it on hard and it will put you to sleep in a completely different kind of way.
Yeah... Rynex and vam.... huh ? the Blue one is Vambrace ? looks very different from the last vabrace that i know.
And people questioning wether Tsukumo Hyakutaro involved in this series or not, i`m wondering do they use music from "Absolute Area" album and "Broken Thunder" album in this game ?
Makoto Sei wrote: i`m wondering do they use music from "Absolute Area" album ... in this game ?
I hope not, considering Absolute Area is the soundtrack from Hyper Duel. That would be really out of place.
oh ? i thought that was previous "Thunder Force" music, because the cover said "Thunder Force VI project ". But i`m glad, so i can hope for better music this time than... but i like " The Judgement ray part 3"
looks very different from the last vabrace that i know.
vambrace was the ship you got when they loaded you with the brigadine armor. the old ship detached and your cockpit loaded onto the vambrace with the armor. after the armor is scuttled it's just the vambrace left.
The ship you were using till then is the Gauntlet.

Yeah, I'd wager that confused a some folks. Why they labeled that album as part of the Thunder Force VI project, I have no idea. Might have been to raise money for Broken Thunder, or it could have been to milk customers by just using a familiar name.

Sometimes it pays to wait for a localization of said original JPN software to add/tweak gameplay to make it better. Then a 2nd revised version comes out in Japan meaning one has to shell out more yen for the tweaked up software. It's marketing/video game business as usual. ^_~
i heard from my friend that work as game reviewer on my city, that he told by his friend from other country THAT had acquainted with internal staff of Tecnosoft, we can expect TF VI as qulity as Gradius V
looks very different from the last vabrace that i know.

oh, i thought we were talking about ship that being cover of TF VI ^^;
i mean that one very different from Vambrace
I think the veiled message I keep getting is graphically, TFVI looks like a doujin game. That? Perhaps it's that what is irking/bothering some people? Moreover, I just can't shake the feeling that this is Ether Vapor 2.
This just confirmed it for me:
If there are more scenes where you get chased by missiles and the camera plays some twists... Not that it's bad. I love the over the top Macross-like missile barrages.
Personally, the game looks nice and colourful. In the land of fake bloom and brown and guys on steroids carrying big guns this is more than welcome. And nice to have a 'big' shooter being released.
