"STG Project"

Post by Zuhzuhzombie!! »

Okay, this is pretty huge news. The director has updated his blog: http://zolge.sega.jp

He confirms that Thunderforce VI is the first in what he would like to call the "STG Project" and that the entire plan revolves around the revival of shooting games. He says there are two other projects after Thunderforce VI that are under wraps for now, and that a lot depends on the success of Thunderforce VI. He says it's all up to the fans that love shooting games to make the project a success.

So there, it's pretty much official that Sega is planning at least 3 shooting revival games, starting with Thunderforce VI, but depending on the success of TFVI, the other two (and even more?) might or might not ever see the light of day. :o

They better be careful. Trying to 'revive' a genre will bullshit games can turn out ineffective.

many said that PS2 still have a long live... i hope they were right. But if PS2 really near the end, the game that developed for the last live of the console become very wonderfull (take FF IX as example), so if this TF VI released in the near end of PS2... we could expect it to be far way better than previous version (not only its graphic but also the game play like TF IV) don`t we ?

So the question is, what shmups does Sega currently have the rights to and which ones are long overdue for a revival?
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

More like it's up to them to make a game shooting fans want to buy/play. If he's counting on people buying it just because it's a shmup ..

Haha, yeah. If they keep picking well-known cult series, the sales will probably be okay anyway, no matter how poor the games are.

Bio-Hazard Battle, Fantasy Zone, and possibly Cotton. Success is still around, right?

I don't think Sega owns all Compile IPs, most of them went to Aiky. I believe they only own Puyo Puyo.

Though the thought of an Aleste X Aleste makes me  :P :x     :o :P :!:   :D

Taito/Square owns Aleste. They even released it on cellphones.

Also, if I were to judge TFVI's outcome from the looks of the director's blog, it would be a 10 out of 10.

Nice to see Sega doing this.

I do expect TH VI to surpass fan's expectations if they compare it to V but it might not live up to the titles before that in the fans' eyes. This game will turn out as a very competent sequel that incorporates a lot of fanservice from previous titles considering that the director also worked on Segaga, Astro Boy, and GSH. All of those were fanservice heavy.

Mr. Matrix's wife. Prior to her marriage she was known as Miss Matrix, of course.
