Are the PS2 versions of Ibara and Mushi even worth getting?

I have heard about all the problems with them and have put off trying them because I like my SHMUPS as close to arcade perfect as possible.

But now I have pretty much ALL the other PS2 shooties and was wondering if they were really THAT bad?

Short answer - if you can run bootlegs on your ps2, yes it's worth.
If not, Mushi is ok, Ibara is shit.

I really don't think they're that bad, but I've never played the arcades ..

Also these patches help a bunch with graphical clarity

Ibara is shit.

I find the PS2 port of Ibara to be fine. Once I accepted that ST3 has no slow down, I found no problems with it. Apart from the missing train once in a while

. That said, I'm still only a beginner on this game, perhaps Gakidou, cigs or Plasmo have different opinions...?

I recommend just getting the PCB of Ibara. It can be had for $200, and the extra $ you spend is well worth it

Yes, they both are, just dont forget, never play either of them in yoko mode.

You forgot the cost of a supergun and joystick if your 'gun doesn't have one. I'd stick with the ps2 version-it'll be less of a pain in the ass to find one.

Check the 'Cutting out the middleman (or one of them) - PCBs from Japan' thread in the trading section; it has plenty of links. ECL stands for Excellent.com. I bought the PCB one year ago or so; still playing it to this day; It's dangerously addictive.

Yup, another recommendation for the Ibara PCB. Superguns aren't too expensive if you know a bit if electronics. Perhaps even more simply, electrics, since you usually don't need to deal with capacitors and stuff.

I owned the PS2 version for a while and thought it was alright, but wow, the PCB version is very pretty.

thats said....mushi port is much better.....and for me i enjoy mushi more.....ibara is frustratingly hard....especially if you are inexperienced in raizing games.....

in short....if you are a cave fan, get mushi....its looks better and its cave danmaku style awesomeness

if you are a glutton for punishment and like raizing titles, get ibara.....but the PCB would be better......and only about 2X the cost of the PS2 port(plus cab/supergun costs)

if the only way you have to play these games is via a PS2.... then it's a no brainer, get them.

I'm a freak about resolution scaling and filtering so I wound up with the PCBs. Mushi is my fav PCB right now.

Agree. If your decision is between getting the PS2 ports or nothing at all (since you can't play PCBs), then definitely buy the ports as they ARE worth playing. The patches mentioned above make them very close to the PCB look as well.

I have mushi and its quite a bit softer than the other cave games i've played. Although I love the game to bits, its disappointing that its so soft. If you put upscaling into the equation like XRGB2 it looks crap.

I will check out mushi sometime this week again, since I'm getting a new monitor. I'll post back then.

About Ibara PCB vs Port+hack.

I think the arrange more is really neat thing.

Maybe even better than the original mode. CUZ I HATE TEH RAIZING STYLE BULLETS.

Ibara arrange was the only reason I considered keeping the PS2 port. But a few more goes on the PCB and I decided to make my £40 back.

I picked up the board with original flyer and copied art for £90 shipped I believe.

In Ibara's case it really is worth preferring the pcb to the port, because it has alow market price, and looks better over a cab.
For me i'd also prefer the ps2 version because of the additional arrange mode, the gallery and a fantastic looking shelf

Also, i have the luck that i can borrow the ibara pcb everytime, so there is no need to buy it.
Definetly want to get the ps2 port again.

Does the PCB version of Ibara have arrange mode or is that PS2 exclusive? If it's only on the PS2, then you need to get that because honestly that's the only thing I touch, I just plain don't like Ibara's arcade mode.

Of course they're both worth getting.
But as already mentioned, to enjoy these ports, please play them in tate only.
Mushi is a great port, and the little graphic weakness in Ibara is matched by the awesome programmed arrange mode and an additional (also amazing) gallery.

Arrange mode is really easy one you get how it works. If you're shooting for the 1cc, what you should be doing is learning some simple big-point tricks for the first two stages so you can get up to 5 lives. Then just drop your medal chain and bomb any time rank starts to get up at all. If you die on a boss, use the Hadou Gun as it'll probably kill it, and don't shoot while it's doing its thing because for some reason bombs/hadous do more damage if you don't shoot while using them. Also learn how to get the 1-up on Stage 4, it's not hard at all with a little practice. And most importantly, use the Search formation because it makes most stages brainless to plow through.

Ok I got Mushi, and thanks for the link to the thread about how to apply the deinterlacing patch, I did that immediately, and all I can say is WOW. I can't believe I put off playing this game for so long.

It's awesome.

Alas, it will only get casual play for now since I've dedicated myself to 1cc'ing ESPgaluda and it gets the most play. I was gonna 1cc DDP first and I have sunk a lot of hours into that, but I had to pick one and stick to it so I chose galuda since I don't think it will take so long.
