New ps3 details and screen shots.

Post by cavemaniac »

over at ign, they have all the details ot eh new ps3.

good stuff in my book:

- backward compatibility with ps2 and ps1 (very important since it will hopefully keep the workflow going for companies like cave who are content with ps2 technology.)

- wil support hi res 1080p
- psp and ps3 can connect wirelessly (psp can also be used as wirless controller)

something interesting about the hi res 1080 output:
UPDATE - 6:22PM - We have just been updated by our away team at the SCEA conference that not only will 1080p be supported by the system, but that this is considered the standard resolution for the system. Every game for the system will be in incredible, indelible, indubitable HD.
hmm let me dream..darius hires (I said it before) and psikyo making a ps3 sengoku game... I know i know. probably not going to happen.

The design is absolutely awful. Especially the controller. hope it`s compatible to te good old dual shock. Don`t wanna shmup with a banana in my hands....

So M$ has won the design competition between XBOXr360 and PS3 by far imo.

Specs are ok. Backward compatibility between three generations of hardware would be the first time and is a big plus in my eyes.

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

bigger pics, no controller yet. Although, any controller would have a very hard time proving to be more crap than the extraordinary batarang.

Nice to see that they have borrowed the Bandai Pippin controller design...

So does that mean the PS3 can output in RGB as well?...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Can the PS3 output in Japanese RGB & Euro SCART output in addition to HD 1080i?

And will it have native 31kHz PC output (like the Dreamcast can output at 31 kHz in addition to 15 kHz with a VGA Box adapter)?

NCSX have already made some statements/predictions about the PS3.

And I agree with them on one of them:
The PS3 does seem heavily inspired by the design of the NEC Duo-R and Duo-RX.

Even the 2nd iteration of the 3DO console was PCE Duo-ish...

And have you noticed that the second console iteration of the 3DO looked PCE Duo-ish as well?

what a shit looking console... sigh... not like i wouldn't play it anyway, but still... nothing has surpassed the megadrive/saturn/dreamcast yet...

gamecube i consider the only decent-looking next-gen system.

Yeah, "Duo!" was the first thought that came into my mind when I saw the PS3 pics. In any case, I could care less about what the console looks like then the games it plays. People are still griping about how big the XBOX is-hey, if I like a system enough, I'll friggin' make room for it.

My biggest concern with the PS3 is this: since there are PS1 shmups that won't play on the PS3, there's bound to be PS2 shmups that won't work on the PS3-could be more (hopefully not), could be less this time around; who knows.

I'd like to see a redo of Giga Wing Generations for PS3 (a port with the full arcade resolution, 60 FPS, and a wait on/off option), and Battle Gear 4 (a natural, since 2 & 3 are on PS2) sometime. This system has the Type-X smoked.

This new controller design just stinks. That's one design I'd like to see "change without notice". Hopefully they won't phase out the old Dual Shock 2.

If all three of the next gen systems hit shelves tomorrow, my choice would be PS3. While the prices of import systems will be mad at first, they should probably drop after the PS3 has been out a few months.

Hopefully they work out some way to play PSP games on the PS3, like the GBA Player for GameCube. To keep costs of such a thing down, Sony could require a PSP to hook into it.

1080p does sound good for a perfect Ninja Warriors/Darius X Darius pack.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Hmm, they are not so similar after all. I mean, PS3 seems to have frontloading as opposed to open lid.

If you at PS3 carefully... The most striking resemblance is with PS2. Look the profile shot: they are basically the same system, just PS2 has a flat upper side while PS3 is convess.

Parish on 1up.com already talks about the battle Concave vs Convess.

Sigh, flat systems are so better, you can pile things up on them.
