Not dying nor bombing at all is something I can't yet do. Technically, I practiced each stage to find strategies letting me no-miss it, but when I do full runs, it doesn't work out very well (the stupid deaths and such), and the last boss is pretty badass by himself (his ramming attack always gets me, and I have to bomb a lot of times to kill him). The best I've yet done is nm/mb'ing to the third boss (where I died twice in a row due to rank increase, thus finishing the run in stage 4 with just over 6 mil).
I'm currently using Bolt/Rivet with symmetrical option formation. I also tried Ring, but for some reason it's harder for me to survive with him (speed difference, or oddball hitbox, I guess).
Is Progear considered easy?

Im not sure what to say on the difficulty of this game, myself.
I've nearly gotten the first loop beaten (though, a couple bombs over the limit to get to the 2nd loop there) in this.... if I can just get a better route through 5, and maybe stop crashing idiotically in 3 when that #(%&#-ing train shows up halfway through, I'll finish that indeed.
I've gotten to the final boss, and gotten to it's last form, AND it's last attack, buuuuuuuut, the last time I did that, I somehow managed to ram the damn thing (Not sure HOW I did that..... since it doesnt move at that point......) which ended it.
But other Cave games on Mame, hmmm......
Progear is difficult, moreso than, say, DoDonPachi, or Guwange, but then Im not so sure about certain others...... Dangun Feveron likes to stomp me, and I never have much luck with RaDe either. I can get to the endboss in Progear with fair consistency, providing I dont screw up, but Feveron and RaDe both just hate me.
And cant forget that certain Progear patterns are a little easier to deal with when you are ready to chain diamonds out of them.
All in all, the difficulty in this one seems to shoot up and down rather drastically...... that's my view on it.

I'm lucky enough that at the arcade they have the volume set so loud you can't here yourself think, let alone the fan! As DEL kept on telling me as I sat playing and loosing - you have to just keep plugging away, over and over...iatneH wrote:Time for some Sonic R-style self-pooping.
I can reach stage 3, maybe 2 times out of 10. I ought to play this game more, but the CPS-2 set is so huge and noisy, I really don't feel like bothering most of the time. Guess I'll read up on those silent fan mods...
My first post on the high score table here was late February, and I've been at it pretty regularly since...

Im still trying to beat this freaking game myself....... been going at it alot lately. Im determined, dangit.
Still crashing at that stupid, stupid train.
Once I even managed to ram the first boss.
This game dont like me much, heh.
Dunno why this game gives me so much trouble.....
Wont be my first Cave 1cc..... I've already cleared 3 out of the 4 modes in Mushi (Original, Maniac, Arrange), and I can generally handle things in Ultra that arent the 2nd boss (or stage 4, blah).
Progear, though, is the one I tend to explode in......
I definitely dont classify this game as easy, heh

With that train, make sure you've collected a good number of rings before hand. Then, when the train starts to creep out, leave it be for a few moment (you can maybe clear a couple of those little tanks that appear along the bottom edge).
Next, be brave with letting the screen fill a reasonable amount, and then unleash your second (jewel-generating) weapon, and you should clear the screen of bullets pretty quick. It's important you've saved enough rings to get the biggest silver jewels, not just for points, but because those silver ones have a bigger radius for catching other bullets than other jewels, and thus spread across the bullet sea more readily.
Finally, you can either let go of fire to suck in all those bullets, and get up the top left to flicker about finishing of the remaining train carriages just as they stick their nose out, or keep fire held down and loiter at the bottom of the screen collecting silver as they fall. This latter technique never works for me, but I've seen Skykid stay there for ages with more and more silver raining down as the train continues to appear.
Hope that helps!

You can shoot the front carriage of the train to blow the whole thing up in one go, but you’ll have to chase it across the screen. You'll lose a lot of points doing this to the mid-level one though.
Edit: I should've died at the helicopter and there's a suprise twist ending but this might help

I think I pissed off some people playing street fighter getting the diamond stream at the end of level 1. “The thing about Ryu is DINGDINGDINGDINGDING”spadgy wrote:I'm lucky enough that at the arcade they have the volume set so loud you can't here yourself think, let alone the fan!
