How close would my eyes be to my Monitor if it were in a cab

Post by bostongeorge »

I have a 19" Tate monitor and would like to get as close as possible to emulating an arcade experience. As is my eyes are probably 20" away from the screen. And being that it's a swivel mounted LCD I have it tilted back a little like it would be in a cab (I think anyway) and the shelf thingie that my joystick goes on puts the stick right below/in front of the screen.

I hope you guys understand what I am asking haha. If an invisible cab was holding my screen and joystick together, I want them to be in the proper places in relation to one another.

So if I was sitting at a candy cab, right up on the control panel approx. how far would my eyes be from the screen? It seems pretty accurate how I have it now, but when i play it feels like I'm a little close, but that may be because I'm just used to sitting back with a controller in hand and not hunched over a stick.

For me the screen is at arms length, so that when my hands are on the stick my arms are bent a little. Thats at a cab with a sit down bench built in. Thing is many candies are played with a stool, so the screen distance is down to the player...

EDIT: Just go for what you fell comfortable with...

You need to eyeball it (no pun intended). You don't even need to look at an arcade cab you think is a comfortable size and try to duplicate that setup; if the screen seems too big, increase your distance from it.

20" is perfect imo. But thats for me. 19" screen is quite a bit smaller though so getting a bit closer won't hurt.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
