Finalburn Alpha ported to PSP
Finalburn Alpha ported to PSP
This past week, there have actually been two almost identical ports of Finalburn Alpha to PSP. Neither have sound, however reports have confirmed that Dodonpachi, Dangun, and Ra.De work with them. (Guwange is too big at the moment apparently)

Choose your poison. And good luck
And please let me know if you are able to get these games working with them and what you did. So far I have tried all the cave games, Donpachi, Dodonpachi, Dangun, Ra.De, and Guwange, and the only one I can get to work is Donpachi. Which is NOT the one that I want to play.

The method posted in this thread (using a bin/cue with alcohol 120% then using psx2psp v1.2) fixes that.indstr wrote:I'm one of the people who could never get DDP to work with pops (locked at the "please wait" screen)

Really don't care anymore. Looking forward to when FBA doesn't suck though.

Not that I know of at the moment. Things seem to be moving away from 1.5. In fact, I heard rumors that they are going to drop 1.5 support from upcoming custom firmwares. Although I hope not. It would kill compatibility with tons of older apps that haven't been updated.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Is there a version of Final Burn Alpha for 1.50fw endowed PSPs?

You could always try to use devhook to load one of the custom firmwares. If you are reluctant about upgrading I guess
Any reason you are still holding on to 1.5?
i remember someone of this forum givin me a copy of the image file of DDP with the audio tracks in it, i remember convertin it to the POPs format and it worked... too bad, i lost the link for it, and my DVD drive died, so i cant locate that file.
anyway, the games' proven to work, if you have the correct image file... but with this emulator on the way, i think it will become useless, since the best version of DDP for me, its the arcade one (and havin all of the other emulated cave, 8ing, razing games on the go its priceless!!!)...

i personally dont like to upgrade the PSP FW that often... actually, im still using the 3.52 M33 CFW... im plannin on upgradin to 4.01 M33 CFW soon, now that they0ve added the 1.50 FW support...indstr wrote:Not that I know of at the moment. the reason im still holding onto 1.50 is, cuz most emulators (say NJ's emus) run better in 1.50 ... and the fact that im a lazy bastard, and dont like to go upgrading everytime somethin new comes up.
so, if they happen to drop support for it, i think im stayin in the latest CFW that supports 1.50, till theres no real reason to be using it anymore.

Bingo, the real reason I haven't upgraded my PSP is to play NJ's arcade emulators of CPS2PSP and MVS2PSP. They both work like a charm on a PSP loaded with such original firmware when it first went on sale in the USA.Kaspal wrote:i personally dont like to upgrade the PSP FW that often... actually, im still using the 3.52 M33 CFW... im plannin on upgradin to 4.01 M33 CFW soon, now that they0ve added the 1.50 FW support...indstr wrote:Not that I know of at the moment. There are still a few homebrew games that work with such 1.50fw PSP but you'd have to really search for them by trial and error nowdays.
What version of devhook and custom firmware would I need to d/l in order to try out this Final Burn Alpha Emu? My PSP is the original fat version with a 2200mAh PSP battery. Sounds intriguing to play arcade shmups with it. ^_~

You are aware that custom firmwares also play 1.5 eboots right? All NJ's emulators work on them. Everything works on them. Even 1.0 eboots.
Honestly I'm not sure that devhook would work to load one of the newer custom firmwares. It was just an idea, since you are apprehensive about the newer stuff. Devhook pretty much went out of the limelight though when the custom firmwares started picking up (around version 2.71). I think it would be more trouble trying to figure out how to get devhook working (if it even would work) than it would be just to upgrade, and then pandora back if you didn't like it.
The custom firmwares are great though, if I were you, I'd just upgrade to 4.01m33-2 with the 1.5 kernel support (seperate patch). All you do is put your 1.5 apps in PSP/GAME/150. My 150 folder is WAY fuller than my regular "GAME" folder. If you hate it (unlikely), you can always downgrade back to 1.5 with pandora. If you accidentally brick your psp, you can still recover it with pandora. So it's win/win
Plus, using newest version = you can play the newest games.

like i said, im thinkin on upgrading soon... its just that im kinda lazy to do that... thats one of the reasons i dont do it often... and also, it gets tiresome when sony its playin the mouse-cat game with DarkAlex all this time... for what i've read, its no longer a challenge for him to make a new CFW whenever the new firmware comes out.
anyway, onceagain, thx for the info, that encourages me to update sooner (i already have the files, just dont wanna upgrade just yet... been playin GoW and Castlevania on the PSP, and dont want an upgrade to fuck up my saves.)
Well you're already on 3.52, that's pretty modern. My reply was mostly @ Pc engine fan.
And actually I had downgraded back to 3.40 for a while up until recently because I was having trouble getting suspend mode to work on newer firmwares. I cannot for the life of me figure out why it's not working, but it's still not even in 4.01. Everything 3.52+ screws up for me. I've tried formatting my stick, all kinds of different firmware versions, "resetting to default settings"... Nothing works. Really frustrating. The PSP goes into suspend mode, and then when I try to restore it, it shuts off instead. It only happened after I used pandora's battery one time though (I think)...
I know it's not hardware problem though because suspend works fine in 3.40....
Does suspend mode work for you Kaspal?

There really is no reason to stay at 1.50 FW or install the 1.50 kernel. If you stay at 1.50, you can't play any PSP games released in the last few years... and as for the 1.50 kernel, 99.9% of 1.50 homebrew has been ported to the 3.xx kernel.
And maybe it's just me, but I found the 1.50 versions of NJ's emulators to load considerably slower when given the choice between 1.50 and 3.xx. The CPS1 emulator is at 2.3.1 and the CPS2 emulator (for Slims) is at 2.3.1... and the MVS emulator is similarly updated.
As for the other emulators running on the 3.xx kernel...

- Snes9xTYL0.4.2mecm (SNES)
- PicoDrive 1.40b (GEN, SEGA CD)
- NesterJ 1.11 (NES) ...okay, this one is 1.00 kernel, but you still don't need the 1.50 kernel, and there's an updated 3.xx kernel version if you really want it
- UOgpSP Kai 3.2 Test 8.7 (GBA)
- MasterBoy 2.02 (GB, Game Gear, Master System)

The PSP cure-all is removing your memory stick, going in to recovery mode, and selecting "format flash1".indstr wrote:Well you're already on 3.52, that's pretty modern. My reply was mostly @ Pc engine fan.

yes it does... actually, i keep my PSP in suspended mode most of the time (basically, i never turn it off)...indstr wrote:Well you're already on 3.52, that's pretty modern. My reply was mostly @ Pc engine fan.

but i remember 2 times while playin GoW that after i start playin the PSP froze... there has not been any more probs with it.
just in case you need to know, i have an original 8Gb Sony MS
well, its not like we're stayin in the 1.50 kernel, is just that we'd like them to keep the suppor of it in the newer kernelsTriple Lei wrote:There really is no reason to stay at 1.50 FW or install the 1.50 kernel. I've gotta disagree. All the emulators have been ported, but think of all the relatively unknown random games and applications that had a single release and the developer has no longer worked on them. I seriously doubt even 20% of these have been updated to 3.xxTriple Lei wrote:and as for the 1.50 kernel, 99.9% of 1.50 homebrew has been ported to the 3.xx kernel.

It didn't work. Shit still won't come out of suspend. I'm doomed

There's always eLoader 1.00 for the odd "1.50-only" release. And I'm sure for every 1.50 app, there's a newer, better 3.xx app that does the same thing.indstr wrote: I've gotta disagree. I've also heard it may take a few tries...

On topic: Great news! This is a major weakness in the emulation department for the PSP. Running some of these games is the next best thing to having a fully functioning MAME. I hope EspRade and Dangun can eventually run full speed with sound... that would just be awesome!
As for the CFW thing... what programs specifically are you guys using that are only for 1.5? I upgraded all the way up to 3.90 m33-3 and can still run everything I throw at it, including 1.5 apps. Also, the newer versions of CPS/2/Neo emus all run perfectly fine with full speed in 3.90 for me. You may just have to find some more up to date versions of your ROMs to get them up and running if you upgrade.

Tried it again, with less high hopes, but still some glimmer. Formatted flash 3 times in a row. Still not recovering from suspend. In 1.5 apps...Triple Lei wrote:indstr wrote: I tried it just now. With very high hopes.

BUT
I did try suspending Finalburn, which of course is a 3.xx app, and guess what... It came back to life. So..
I guess you have converted me. Never would have thunk it. But if it means fixing my broken suspend mode, it's worth it. Off to find the 3.x eboots for everything I can now
Also I had heard of eloader but I didn't know what it did. So... not too worried now if they cap 1.5 support.

Just finished fiddling with this for a bit... outlook is good for a first release. Full speed, just no sound. I tried everything of interest that wasn't CPS or Neo Geo. Only games I could get working:
1945k III (what a weird rip-off game... decent though)
DonPachi
Sonic Wings / Aero Fighters
It seems like it's trying to access some of the games for a second off my stick, then just stops. If you try loading certain ones, it looks like it's about to load, then just locks the emulator up until it shuts down the PSP. Some do absolutely nothing.
Look forward to this being developed further.

Not sure whether you are trying to run these on a new PSP Slim (PSP2000) or an old PSP1000, but some of the release notes imply larger games only work with PSP Slim's extra ram. I'm sure they will eventually get em running on phat. It took a while before neo geo roms were supported, even though neo geo cd was supported for a long time.
No. But if you have a phat, either doing a d-pad mod or getting a stick-on third party pad helps a lot. I haven't used a slim myself, but people say the d-pad on it is far superior to the phat. And playing tate, although weird at first, is actually pretty comfortable with a little control confuguration and it looks great on the PSPs screen.Ed Oscuro wrote:Original blighted PSP analog nubbinz + manic shmupping = good times?
I don't know. Unless they create some way to make a cache file for the larger games, it might not be possible any other way. Hopefully they'll want to support all the phat users.indstr wrote:I'm sure they will eventually get em running on phat.
