Been tracking down Dreamcast shmups and need to make a decision on a few others.
I have
Border Down
Gunbird 2
Giga Wing
Giga Wing 2
Mars Matrix
Zero Gunner 2
I have Psyvariar 2, Castle of Shikigami, Ikaruga and Chaos Field on Ps2 and GameCube and was wondering which were the better versions. People say the DC games load quicker and don't look any different, is this correct? Would I be better off with what I have, or trading them for the DC versions?
Which version is best
I have Ikaruga for both the DC and GC.
I like the DC version better because you can hear the robot voice better than on the GC version (it's louder and you can make it out better). It may be a little thing, but to me it's the deal breaker becuase graphically they're identical.
Anybody else love that voice?

I went out of my way just to get the DC Ikaruga just to hear the voice properly (and some other sounds that don't show up well in the GC version)Anybody else love that voice?
DC Ikaruga is much >>>> than the GC version. It lacks a few modes and extras (Conquest mode and the on-screen chain counter), but it's better sound and visual quality makes up for those...

Supposedly the PS2 Psyvariar 2 has the most stuff in it, though the DC is more for "purists" since it doesn't have a roll button. As far as Shikigami is concerned the main differences are apparently mainly presentational and minor, at least to the best of my knowledge. AFAIK the GC version of Chaos Field is supposed to be overall the better of the two. As for Ikaruga, the DC version apparently has a better presentation, but the GC version has extra features.

DC and GC Ikaruga are not graphically identical. The DC version has noticeably crisper graphics (and audio).jpolz wrote:I have Ikaruga for both the DC and GC.
