haha
Sad thing though is Sony fans are completely overlooking the shape of the pad (even jaded gamers in TNL forum) and immediately saying 360 will be a failure. I give Sony props for having a good product unveiling, but it's sad all they have to do is have a slick press conference with an over-the-top close up photo of Jin's face from Tekken (which is debateable or doubt ful even as to whether it's actually in game) and everyone goes nuts.
But yeah, it sounds like that MTV special was moronic.
Controller: If it aint broken, why fix it? The new controller looks completely uncomfortable.

Maaaaan... I thought the regular Playstation controller sucked, but this is just fugly. The console doesn't look any good either - though it's not as pathetic as the PS2 and its damned blue led from hell.
I'm willing to give the new controller the benefit of the doubt only because I doubt Sony would spend time and money re-designing it if the end result was terrible. They'd fall back on the DS2 in that case.

Maybe the recent lawsuit had something to do with that. Maybe this new design circumvents that somehow.
Anyway, I'll reserve judgment on the controller until I feel it. It looks quite ergonomic actually. The d-pad looks like it's in a very natural position, esp. compared to the analog sticks.

Oh great, you may be right that the stupid lawsuit might have had an impact (what comoany was that again?). But couldn't they have tweaked it some other way than making it some weird boomerang-MS sidewinder clone?
But yeah, best to reserve judgment until you actually have it in your hands. I learned that when I thought the PSP was a piece of junk based on the construction of the PS2 and some rather wild net reports. But when I finally got the PSP in my hands I had new respect for Sony, it really is the best piece of hardware they ever made (assuming you didn't get a bad unit anyways ). Let's hope the PS3 is as nicely made.
Can't say I've really seen anything for either the XBox360 or PS3 to really be all that interested in at this point (with the possible exception of the media center integration, which looks like it could have some really cool potential... Kudos to Sony for actually deciding to support some industry standard memory formats on their platform though. Memory Stick Pro Duo might not be too bad for a platform with limited appeal like the PSP, but I think they'd have a very hard time convincing the mass market to pay the big bucks for it on PS3, especially when people already have all sorts of SD and CF cards.) My guess is that we'll be getting a whole lot of the same old cookie-cutter FPS garbage as we've gotten from this generation, only with more polygons.
I think it sums up the market right now best that yesterday I was over at my cousins' house where someone was playing Super Mario World on an SNES, and I was wishing we could get more stuff like that... At least there's apparently a new 2D Super Mario in development on the DS, so maybe we'll get the chance...
And one more note: Reading the PS3 and XBox360 conference threads over on Engadget gives me a newfound appreciation for having a place like this, relatively free of the drooling rabid fanboyism over there (see also: Gamefaqs kiddies.)
Wow, I've never seen a Duo before, but I must say that Duo is one sexy beast!
I'm a bit worried that the long handles on that PS3 controller might aggravate my sweaty palm syndrome. I mean, they'll get sweaty no matter what, but just more so if they're gripped around hot plastic instead of having some air to breathe.
In this video you can see that you can talk to in game characters via headphone/mic. The unit has 2 x HDMI sockets so that you can play link with 2 TV's via one console or have a 32:9 (2 x 16:9 TV) setup for racing games (kinda like a panarama screen thingy) where you join 2 TV's together to make one big image.
In fact the graphics look real, not like games at all. In the video you can see how they blended GT5 graphics with Spiderman the movie. Spiderman swings through the gran turismo game
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Nintendo Revolution is VGA compliant, as Nintendo noted it about 6 months ago.
As for XB360 and PS3, they adopt HDMI, which is considered the best for all digital sources. I am quite sure there will be more DVI/HDMI monitors by the time these consoles come out.
Remember in Europe SVGA monitors are the most commonplace screens to enable high definition video. So I am kinda expecting SVGA output on the new consoles.

Wow, some people actually like the design of the PS3? I almost spit my drink all over my monitor when I first saw it. If they were designing a tanning bed for Barbie it would be on-point, but for a game system, it's absolutely laughable.

The vast majority of LCD monitors currently produced (with the exception of the low end models) have DVI already. A good number of HDTV sets have it as well. It shouldn't be too hard to find, as long as you're TV isn't ancient (although I imagine the majority of TVs out there still don't even have S-video input, much less Component or DVI.)
As for the PS3 design, I get the sneaking suspicion we'll be seeing some design modifications there. The best theory I've seen is that it may have been a speculative design that got rushed out the door when they needed to have something to show at E3. Even the fanboys have panned the controller pretty thoroughly at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see that get changed before the release. But then again, the original larger style XBox controllers seem to have a surprisingly devoted following, so who knows?
HDMI is also being adopted on today's HDTVs because it's content protected, and you know that that bunch of baby-killing commie nazis... erm, content providers don't want you recording their shows.
The Xbox will display on VGA monitor provided that you use Neoya's VGA box. After all, what is a 640 by 480 Progressive signal, if not VGA?
Besides I'm sure that these consoles will support regular Hi-Def progressive component, and this can be converted to VGA. Just like the Cube.
