What are the best Nintendo DS RPG's?
Just wanted to point out that Etrian Odyssey 2 is coming out in a couple weeks. Honestly, it is enough to make the DS a winning console, years after its release.

Eugenics: you know it's right!
Etrian Odyssey is definitely hot shit! Way harder than the first one with significantly more depth. This isn't the sort where you can just make a party and go with it. I've already changed my party three times, which seems to be inherently part of the game. It also seems that as I get farther in the dungeon I may need to change my party again.
FOEs take on a new character as they are far too difficult to beat at first and you'll have to evade them until you level up enough. Adds a certain degree of terror to the game which was absent from the first one.
Also recently picked up Final Fantasy 3 which is old school enough for me to really enjoy. This plus the DQ games definitely make this an old-school gamers paradise!

I think a lot of people (including myself) have written off twewy. Why not tell us why are presumptions are wrong

^^ I've seen people raving about TWEWY on forums where I don't value the majority of opinions. This is the first time I've seen it mentioned here. I'd be curious to hear why you think it's great.
Not that I'll likely have time to play it. Etrian Odyssey 2 will keep me entertained for most of the next year.

Ah, Children of Mana. I started off liking it, then 3 hours later, I realised nothing was ever actually going to happen in it. I sold it the next day.elfhentaifan wrote:I just bought Children of Mana, which also is my first DS Rpg.
It has very cute art, and the music is adorable too.
Will put some dedication into it, the following days.
If you liked Secret of Mana, you very propably have to get this one, too.
Etrian Oddessy, now that's a dungeon crawler

About Etrian Odysse, i definetly get this when the price dropped.
But after all it was time for a DS game, since it was 2 years ago, i bought one last time (and i do not download them or any), so i looked for something nice and cheap.
I ended up at Children of Mana, and it's okish to me.
The cute art also sweetens it up a bit

You mean you hate the stylus 100% of the time, or you hate the stylus when it replaces commands that would normally be done with a dpad?
If it's the former, the DS just isn't your thing I guess. That's the only thing that really makes the DS different than other systems. For example, Trauma Center surgeries and Etrian Odyssey mapping is fun and those things can't be done well with dpads and analog sticks.

Exactly. I wouldn't wait too long, Atlus games almost never get a price cut anyhow.CMoon wrote:*cough*LimitedAtlusRun*cough*elfhentaifan wrote: About Etrian Odysse, i definetly get this when the price dropped.
Speaking of price cuts Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer is only twenty bucks brand new at Frys Electronics. Pretty decent DS dugeon crawler if you ask me.

Sorry man, I wasn't trying to put you off it! Give it a proper go; you might love it!elfhentaifan wrote:thanks for telling me the whole storyMX7 wrote:

Let me rephrase that: I hate being forced to use the stylus for really simple movement and menus, things that would already work perfectly with a d-pad (imagine the Phoenix Wright games if they had forced you to only use the stylus rather than its excellent dual control system). Trauma Center works (dual stylus for the win) but games like ASH and Children of Mana fail.MR_Soren wrote: You mean you hate the stylus 100% of the time, or you hate the stylus when it replaces commands that would normally be done with a dpad?

*nods* Final Fantasy 3 let's you choose, and I absentmindedly find myself switching back and forth.

Whats the point of buying any DS Games you just spend 20 hours on here talking about it, then sticking it on your shelf and never playing it.. Or buying that DS Crystal Chronicles set because it had a Penelo Figure and a poster with... And you can crack open the Wine and photograph yourself playing it..
Wut?

In that case, I agree with you 100%. dpad controls should not be removed to add touch controls. It should be an added option in those situations.Ganelon wrote:Let me rephrase that: I hate being forced to use the stylus for really simple movement and menus, things that would already work perfectly with a d-pad (imagine the Phoenix Wright games if they had forced you to only use the stylus rather than its excellent dual control system). Uh, it was originally developed and released for the SNES which means it isn't a DS RPG. This happens to be a thread for recommending DS RPGs. A good example of a DS RPG would be WEWY or Soma Bringer.Violent Ken wrote:Return to school...
