The BEST NES controller with rapid/turbo fire??...

I just got NES Max, but I hate the control pad and the stick-it's either too loose or too tight. From the Wiki entry: "Unlike the standard NES controller, the Max has a small button-shaped item called a cycloid, that can be moved in directions for movement. It functions similar to a joystick, however, it lacks analog response." Which means it stinks for game play.

I know there were other companies that put out NES controllers, and, even if it's a 3rd party one, I'd still like to know. (The NES Advantage has turbo, but I usually don't like joysticks.)

Why would you want analog in an NES controller? Silly Wikipedia.

I almost bought one of these recently. I thought it could possibly be an improvement over the NES control pad. I completely forgot that I had gotten a NES Advantage some time ago.

I like the Advantage somewhat. I like good pads more, but the Advantage is alright.

What cool about the NES Advantage is that it uses one of those legendary "555" timer chips that can be used for variable auto-fire on an arcade cabinet setup...simply adjust the firing rate and you're in business.

Yeah, that's what I've been told on the Atari Age forums. So, how big-in terms of inches and weight-would you guys estimate the NES Advantage to be? It looks really big, about the size of the grey Namco PS1 joystick.

It's been awhile since I used one, but the Advantage stick ain't large. It's quite small, maybe 7x8 inches iirc. Overall it's a responsive stick just like it's cousins the Ascii Sticks found on the MSX, SMS, and PC-Engine.

Easy: Get a Turbo Blaster (I have one) or some other device that allows you to plug in any controller of your choice and give it rapid fire capabilities. You get your preferred controller and turbo to go with it.

Thanks for the links, but 7X8 inches sounds pretty good! It must be small, because the shipping for one on Ebay is not that much.

It's my smallest stick by far. About 7-8 inches wide and about 6 inches long of the top of my head. Really flat too - a great little stick...

Perhaps it's just me, but I've always considered the Advantage to be a disadvantage (har har). Not nearly as responsive as the standard pad.

About the 555 chip, I don't know why you'd want to destroy an Advantage for one of those. It's probably one of the most common chips in existence.

Nice one! I never have been as good with sticks as with pads, but the Advantage may change that. That is if I can find out for certain if it is 7x8 inches, and about how heavy it is. I'll try emailing another seller on Ebay-first guy never answered my question.

I'll measure mine tonight if I don't get beat to it. It's a funny little stick, in that it's at the opposite end of the spectrum from flashy microswitched Hori things...

I have had the opposite reaction. Sure the throw is too long, but at least it works every time. Even on a new DS the horrible cross-pad design leaves me missing diagonals.

Right - it's just over 6 inches from front-to-back, and just under 8 inches wide.

In terms of depth, at the front it's less than half-an-inch, and at the back its around an inch-and-a-half, thanks to it's slightly sloped front.

Ok, so this guy who's selling an Advantage on Ebay told me that it weighs about 3 pounds, and that he agreed that it's 7x8 inches. Does 3 pounds sound about right to you all?

That's about how heavy mine is, unless it's loaded. It's pretty heavy for an NES controller.

Gotcha-so I found out that the Quickshot has suckers on the bottom that will stick to a table, but I don't know how comfortable it would be to hold in my lap, compared to the advantage. I just don't have a table of the proper height in front of my TV.

Totally forgot, it does have suction cups. I guess mine just got weaker and I stopped using them/totally forgot.

True. Office Max also has different sizes of card tables, and if I could find a small one (wouldn't have to be real big), that would work as well.

I had a joystick similar to the Quickshot for the Atari 2600, and it wasn't really uncomfortable to hold in my hand-although a table would be ideal.

So, how good is the rapid fire on the Quickshot?
