Will a Naomi setup work with a AV 7000 Supergun setup?

Post by hermosaguy »

As the title states. I am a bum and have no cab, so this is the way I gotta do it. The game in question is Marvel vs Capcom 2, and I am also curious if a GD setup would work too. Thanks in advance!

I guess first things first: Does Naomi output 15khz or do you have a 31khz monitor you're planning to hook it up to?

From the manual:
The monitor frequency corresponding to NAOMI is 15kHz or 31kHz.
NAOMI can not be used for the cabinet incorporating a monitor or projector
not corresponding to 15kHz or 31kHz.
Use the NAOMI board with the JVS-compatible cabinet. Using it with the
non-JVS-compatible cabinet may cause an overheating and fire.

Naomi is also JVS as mentioned, so you'll need a converter to run it on JAMMA. I've heard some of those can cause lag, but that might just be rumors.

My only concern would be that a supergun had enough amps to push the NAOMI.

Other than that, you can run it on a low res. RGB monitor or on your VGA PC monitor (640x480, but you must change switches on the NAOMI itself).

You can use a Sega I/O converter or a Capcom I/O converter. The Capcom one is nice because if you are using a GD-ROM setup, you don't need an extra power supply (GD-ROM plugs right in). I'm told you can run w/o an extra power supply for the GD-ROM unit just using the Sega I/O board, but I'm not sure how the wiring harness goes.

The NAOMI does both 15Khz & 31Khz, selectable by a switch. If you have a JAMMA setup you will need a I/O adapter. Look here:

http://www.sega-naomi.com/Iframes/hardw ... Converters

Buy the CAPCOM converter! If you plan to just run carts you can get away with only the CAPCOM converter. If you want a GDROM you will need more power.

Normal procedure is to buy an ATX power supply + an ATX to NAOMI power harness. while disconnecting the CAPCOM I/O's power cable.

edit:
I got my ATX to NAOMI power harness from here:
http://southtown-homebrew.com/
Looks like they don't do them anymore though.

i use a Sanwa JVS PSU and a Sega revB I/O board for this setup

haha, this is the biggest hoax ever. A supergun set up is more expensive than a cab actually. Just do the math. Not a brand new vewliz cab from Japan offcourse, but cheap wooden cabs are widely available. Personally I don't understand why anyone would ever prefer a supergun setup. It's such a mess. Anyway don't you have a lcd tv with vga input?

A supergun is like a console, so why not just sell the lot and get a dc and mvc2? arcade equipment is meant for a cabinet.

Super small apartment. My railing from my stairs to my apartment is 31" and I was told the thinest part of a egret 2 or astro is 32" :(

I don't know where you all are getting your measurements from. All Astro City cabs are 29 and 1/2 inches wide.

BTW: sweet setup hermosaguy!

1) I like this thread... now, other than Illvelo, someone name the Naomi games that I can't play on my DC? That's the bummer (Dynamite Shit doesn't count)

2) Jesus, Hermosaguy... how do you get laid w/ all that shit in your room?

3) D, please pass the bong, dude! There's a little something called "shipping" (even locally in Japan to an extent) which kills the value of a cab... or at least makes it more expensive than an SG. You can get an AV7000/9000TB setup shipped to your door for $500 USD. I've sent about 10 in the last year.

1) Jingi Storm, Slashout, Spikers Battle, just to name a few of the more interesting ones (well, maybe not to most people)

Yeah, the monitor on the left is for the early cave boards, and the one on the right is for the SH-3 boards. The bottom is for my st-v and cotton.

A fair point. I honestly wouldn't bother with Naomi if I didn't have cabs. The DC ports are about as arcade perfect as it gets. Looking at my list the only two I have that I couldn't buy on DC are VF4FT and Monkey Ball. And there are certainly alternatives there too.

I too can answer that!

When I bought Progear off Hermosaguy, it came packaged in a box that formally housed some very ornate cowboy boots - that's how he gets laid!

Well, that's actually why I got my Naomi, mostly to play Jingi Storm (a purchase I don't regret at all). And of course, I'll need to try out DDEX eventually since I really like the Dynamite Deka series.

I actually enjoyed the few credits I put into Illvello. I'm sure a home port is coming, but the question is where. I'd love a PS2 one, but I think I'm dreaming.

Cabs are everywhere, they don't need to be shipped at all! Seek through your local market place internet sites or ebay, jump in your car and get that cab. 500$?
You can get 3 of these http://home.wanadoo.nl/gert-hanpetra/Plaatjes/1aa.jpg woodies for that price and still have some change. :D Like I said, I doesn't have to be a brand new vewlix. I'd rather have one of these woodies than a forest of wires. To each their own I guess. But the taking up the room aspect is over exegerated. I mean, just look at the dimensions of a cab and now measure your tv set-up. In the old days cabs were mega-expensive, but lately cab prices keep dropping in price! But you are in Japan and for you it's different, just nice expensive candies. for me it's different again, cause in the Netherlands woodies are cheap and candies get offered from time to time and group orders are made with reasonable prices. Anyway, sorry to have pissed supergun owners off. I just really hate looking at wires and cables.

Supergun owners are a fickle bunch...it helps to have some ample room for storage of all those arcade PCBs as well. And if you do have room for a cabinet or two, all the better. ^_~

Very nice setup you got there, hermosaguy. What brand of RGB monitors are those anyways for your various PCBs?
