10 Game PCBs in a Cabaret / Mini

Post by caligvla »

I wanted to post this when I got all my PCBs in there, but I am at a road block at finding the last few games I am looking for...

I have the Pac-Man 25th Anniversary / Ms. Pac-Man / Galaga Cabaret unit from Namco, as you can see below, I chose to void my warranty and mod the crap out of it.

Image

I am using the 6 in 1 PCB switcher, when the non-remote version comes out, I will add that to the cabinet so I can switch between 11 PCBs. For now I have my 6 favorite games on the switcher and manually switch out the remaining 4, it's pretty quick with the JAMMA extension cables. I secured the boards with Velcro and they seems to stay in place pretty well.

The boards that are in there are;
Pac-Man / Ms. Pac-Man / Galaga - Came with unit cool continue feature.
Arcade Shop Programmable JAMMA
60 in 1
Namco Classic Vol. 1
Namco Classic Vol. 2
Pac-Mania
Galaga '88
Space Invaders '95
Cosmo Gang the Video
Tenkomori Shooting

What do you guys think?

BTW I am still looking for the following, if you got one you want to part with let me know...
Gunbarich
Space Bomber
Blast Off

That is pretty ingenious to place that many arcade PCBs in just one cabinet setup... ^_~

I recall that Brookstone sells that particular cabinet (through their mail order catalog and website as well) that you have...how much did it set you back? Sounds like it's a Jamma cab to begin with, am I right?

And what size is the RGB monitor on this mini caberet cab anyways?

19" wells garner digital monitor, that I replaced with a 19" samsung/kortek.
The wells garner it came with had some purity issues and it was finicky about signal, Tenkomori Shooting and Space Invaders '95 had just a black screen.
I bitched to Namco about it, they sent me back to the distributor, the distributor was cool about it and sent me the kortek, everything worked fine after that.

It is a JAMMA cab, it uses the same Pac/Ms. Pac/ Gal PCB as in the arcade version, its a cool little PCB, all red with a red pac-man ghost imprinted on it. However there were a few setbacks, no coin door, (my Namco System 1 boards don't have a freeplay setting) so I wired a black happ 1 player button to the back of the cabinet, the back panel of the cab is all black so it looks nice and clean, got the button from lizard lick

The power supply was dinky only 3amp, so I replaced it with a Happ 15amp. There was no -5v on the JAMMA harness so I had to add that.

The Joystick was a Happ 4-way, switched out for a Sanwa JLW 4/8 way.

The cost was $3000.00 with shipping. I know crazy... but I really love the artwork, etc...

I sold my original Ms. Pac Cocktail that had a mulit-pac board in it, now I have all those games in my new cab, +70 others, see list below;

Haha no the switcher from Jammaboards.com only feeds power to the selected PCB, So you only have a power supply monitor and 1 PCB generating heat. But just to be on the safe side I am gonna mount a couple fans from Happ on the back panel of my cab, the vents are already there.

Have you tested your Kortek monitor with any PSIKYO games ? I had to swap out my Kortek because it could not sync on Strikers 1945 II.

Well make that 11 PBCs in one cabinet,
Gunbarich has been added (bottom right corner of picture)

My Kortek (Samsung tube) is working just fine with Gunbarich which is a PSIKYO game from 2001. I usually avoid Korean products but this monitor seems to work fine with all my boards.

I have a Gunbarich question, the manual says it has 8-way joystick control, but I only move right and left, just what am I missing here?

Last note: I am still looking for Namco - Blast Off and PSIKYO - Space Bomber... Let me know if you have one to part with or know where to get one.

thanks!

For caligvla,

Your Gunbarich PCB is just a 2-way directional movement game (move your selected character either to the left or the right with an 8-way digital based joystick input).

Hint: Wiggle your digital joystick like mad if your character gets stunned by one of those nasty bombs to get out of a jam & to quickly regain control of him or her! Take too long and you just might lose your ball + life.

Hope that clarifies any confusion that the Gunbarich manual brings up however vaguely worded it is... ^_~

Thanks, I was wondering if i was missing out on some cool combo moves or something...

I am so happy to add this game to my cabinet, I love "breakout" style games, but they usually suck with joysticks, Gunbarich is a rare exception!

I would have never know about the game if it wasn't for this forum... so thanks!

Good to see your Kortek is working, mine might have been slightly older than yours :D

If you enter service mode in Gunbarich you will norice that you can only test left and right. You are not missing out on anything.

Gunbarich is fantastic!

Hmm I must have a different firmware, because I can test Up, Down, Right, left...

Do you have any idea what those options do when you enter in the service codes for maintenance mode.

* Maintenance Codes :
1-2-3-4-5 Clear Hi-Scores
0-2-9-2-0 Maintenance Mode (Stage Select etc.)
0-2-9-1-0 Clear All Data

Yeah I love the game, it's also the most recent PCB in my collection 2001
the next most recent game is Tenkomori Shooting 1998.

The maintenance codes listed above do exactly as mentioned. If you want to gain access to the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) demo of Gunbarich, then you'd input the code for "Maintenance Mode" and select it -- you'll find out that it plays slightly different than the final version of the same name... ^_~

There is a option to reset the high score, but it doesn't seem to save them when you power down anyway... Am I missing something?

I have a question about video levels. I find that I need to adjust my monitor when I swap out a game PCB, to get the best picture. Sometimes it is a must. Do you have this problem, or does your monitor auto adjust?

Thanks

does it save it somewhere in the configuration pages?
because every time I power down then play the game again I enter a new HS in the #1 slot...

Position can be an issue from one PCB to the next, some games are a bit shifted more to the right or too far to the top, etc. so my solution for that was to find a happy medium where they are all as close to center as possible and then I squish the horizontal and vertical position about a 1/2 inch. So that there is a black frame around the game. kinda like a letterbox on a film. So if I put in a PCB that is shifted to much in one direction the entire image is still on screen.

I do have one board that isn't as bright as the others, but it's minor, I also think it's just a low quality board, the iCade 60 in 1.

I am also switching between a wide variety of boards.

2 Namco System 1 boards (Pac-Mania & Galaga '88)
1 Namco System 2 board (Cosmo Gang: The Video)
2 Namco ND-1 boards (Namco Classic .vol 1 & 2)
1 Namco System 12 board (Tenkomori Shooting)
1 Namco 2005 (Pac-Man 25th Anniversary / Ms. Pac-Man / Galaga)
1 Taito F3 Board (Space Invaders '95)
1 Psikyo SH2 Board (Gunbarich)
1 Multi-Game programmable board from arcadeshop.com
1 iCade 60 in 1

It's a pet peave of mine when a board has an unusual display- especially brightness-wise.
It seems like most boards are pretty much similar with each other, and then you get the rare odd-ball.

I checked my Gunbarich manual last night. There is no mention of any high score saving.

This is my new plan to be able to use 12 PCBs in my cabinet
Image

I am curring using the 6 in 1 switcher from Jammaboards.com
I can't daisy chain 2 switchers because the both are on the same RF frequency, but I can connect two 6 in 1 switchers to a 2 in 1 from mikesarcade.com. So on the remote I can access 6 PCBs, flip a switch then access the other 6 PCBs. I ordered everything I'll let ya know how it works out.

For some odd reason, the arcade puzzler of American Technos version of Block Out PCB outputs at super low brightness levels, meaning one has to really crank up the brightness level on such a Japanese arcade cabinet setup. Having it cranked up (brightness-wise) for long periods of time is just asking for trouble on down the road. Why does it have such low brightness output?
