I recently discovered this very innovative variation on the shmup a few weeks ago. One-player mode sucks, but the two-player mode is a blast!
I got a few friends playing this game, and even some non-shmuppers seemed intereted in it.
The best feature and most creative idea I've seen in any game are the Boss Forms (very similar to the concept of Level MAX super moves in Marvel vs. Capcom 2). Your player ship docks with a boss enemy, and you can dish out your own manic boss attacks.

Change Air Blade is my current obsession. Two player mode is so addictive. My friends and I are even conjuring up strategies, techniques, and even specific terminology for this game. Things we have come up with are:
Insta-Death Bullets: The stereotypical staple orange-colored shmup orbs which kill the bottom player with one hit.
Shield-Depleting Bullets: These are the shots fired by the top and bottom players which do not kill with one hit, but deplete their life bars.
Power Shot: Both the top and bottom players can do this. Hold down the Shot button ("A" Button) to fire stronger "Shield-Depleting Bullets" at the expense of slower speed. This slower speed is useful in dodging tight aimed insta-death bullet spreads.
Firecrackers: This is the top player's "B" Button attack. They are timed-release weapons which explode into different attack patterns, chosen at random, provided his Super Meter is at Level 1 or Level 2. Firecrackers can be destroyed by the bottom player's weapons.
Boss Form: This is the top player's Level MAX "B" button attack. It summons a Boss which the top player can control and fire boss attacks using any of the three buttons.
Bomb Cancel: When the bottom player uses a full bomb, the top player can cancel it out, provided he has a Level MAX Super Meter, by calling up his Boss Form.
Boss Cancel: Likewise, the bottom player can cancel out the top player's Boss Form by grabbing an Exchange icon to switch sides.
Aura Rush: Bomb Fragments give you momentary protection from bullets in the form of an Aura surrounding a small area around your ship. The Aura Rush is a technique where a bottom player activates his Aura (a partial Bomb) and rushes towards his opponent. This technique is very useful to deal with top opponents who like to pin you in a corner with insta-death bullet spreads by escaping their "Death Trap" technique.
Firecracker Spam: The Firecracker Spam involves releasing several Firecrackers in quick succession, resulting in a spam of random patterns that will overwhelm all but the players with the quickest reflexes.
Death Trap: The top player can effectively pin an underpowered bottom opponent to one side of the screen. The bottom player is at the top player's mercy as all the top player has to do is fire the insta-death bullet spreads regularly to keep the bottom player away from his vertial position. Can be escaped by the aforementioned "Aura Rush" technique.
Trap Shooter: The top player traps the bottom player in a small area of his playfield in one of several ways (like the "Death Trap" technique), and releases a quick aimed Lock-On special for a quick kill.
