HELP!!! I JUST PARTIALLY FRIED MY ESPRADE!!!
HELP!!! I JUST PARTIALLY FRIED MY ESPRADE!!!
long story short.....i hooked something up to the powersupply i shouldnt have and blew the fuse...replaced the fuse and now my ESPRADE is fucked....
it looks like this now:
http://www.megavideo.com/?v=SR8Z1Z66
it still loads and everything runs as per normal but the color/sprites/layers are fucked.....some stuff seems unaffected while other stuff is missing completely and colors are wrong...some layers are there and others arent
when i go into the test menu where the color bar should be is a garbled mess
the game still seems to be fully working but maybe only some roms got fucked up
if anybody knows of anyone trustworthy who can fix this for me i would be eternally grateful!!!
perhaps reburn the roms or something
this is my first and only board, it would kill me if i fucked it up permanently by my own stupidity
PLEASE HELP SAVE MY BOARD

Shouldn't be too hard to fix in the right hands. The basic core of the PCB is working fine. All you have done is zzapped one of the roms or you could have unsocketted one of the roms. Give each rom a good push whilst holding the back and try again. Since you have no other PCB's to test, it makes analysis very hard to break down. It could be a video cable or ANYTHING.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
well...considering i shot 100 volts into the +5v line on the powersupply i definitely did something to the board.....
i have somebody with a lot more knowledge about this stuff coming by so we should be able to see if its the board or what....
im not touching anything now till they come cuz i really dont trust myself at this point
but the board is still running as per normal....its still loads and runs and can be played but the sprite data is all screwy....so hopefully somebody can re-burn the roms for me and have it sorted....
oh well....live and learn i guess...still sux tho

If all else fails, you'll eventually come to the conclusion that it would time to just buy another ESP.ra.de PCB, one that is working 100% of course...
Get some other cheap-ass PCBs so that you can make the determination that it isn't just your lone PCB that is having graphical issues...
Don't play stupid with arcade PCBs if you don't know what you're doing, as it's a very expensive hobby to begin with. Please feel free to ask here in the Hardware section and some more knowledgable PCB hobbyists can come to the rescue... ^_~
Treat your PCBs with utmost respect and be aware about the real danger of possible static electricity discharging on your favorite beloved PCB...
Let this be a learning experience for you about not to add any more voltage to the 5v line as it already has enough juice as it is...
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

Hey Cody, you want to buy my broken Nostradamus? It has similar color pallete problems, but no missing sprites. It came to me this way, and no idea whats wrong with it.cody wrote:If it turns out to be really busted, I might be willing to do a swap of it + reasonable value in exchange for my working one; let me know.
ya the board looks fine....someone over at killercabs thinks i might have fried the sprite ram and possibly corrupted/deleted some roms
considering i basically shot 100v through it its pretty much fooked
ah well....live and learn
it still loads and runs fine....it just looks fucked
how much is a partially working esprade worth?

dude...when i first realized what i had done i almost started crying.....
i felt like such an ass....its totally my own fault tho...
my buddy took one look at me and was like 'uhhhh....i gotta go'
it was so dumb....i saw the connector and the empty socket on the PS and i was like 'why isnt this plugged in' and i siad to my buddy 'how much you wanna bet this will fix the interference problem'
plugged it in and turned on the cab.....zap!....flash!
blew the fuse...replaced it....turned on the cab.....and shit my pants.....the load screen had a neon green background and then the title screen was all garbled....
sttupidest part is i didnt even trace the line from the connector to see where it came from.....after the fact i looked and wwas like 'oh ....shit.....100v AC out.....im an idiot
so ya......not my best moment

Don't feel bad, everyone makes bonehead mistakes like this. Just recently I plugged in my J-Pac upside down, frying the inputs on the board....and I've been in this hobby for 10 years. Long ago I blew my spyhunter monitor by plugging it in without an isolation transformer...twice...since I didn't know that was the problem after fixing it the first time! Expensive lessons. Welcome to the "hobby".
oh welll.....just bought brendz's ibara kit.....its minty fresh....and the game is so beautiful......should keep me busy
prolly have a meet in a few weeks......brendz said he would bring his mushi PCB, and if malik11's buddy comes again and brings his ketsui we can have a super cave fest!!!!
somebody needs to get a supergun so we can run more than one PCB at a time.....oh well...maybe get some more 3rd strike going on the ps2....
WIN!!!!!11!!

Yep, fried sprite RAM most likely. It is repairable, however I do not have the tools, chips, or time to do it.
I keep a cheap PCB around anytime I do anything to my cabs. If something fucks up, i'll fry a $6 US Classic Golf PCB instead of DoDonPachi. Go on ebay and pick up a super cheap JAMMA PCB of a shitty game and keep it as a test board.

Sorry but it's a dead end. If you have friend the MASK ROM's orjonny5 wrote:anybody know anyone who can repair this?
any links or names/contact info would be most appreciated
the GPU there is no easy cure. You should start searching for a new one.

Especially if any of the custom ICs are fried. it would be way more trouble than it is worth.rtw wrote:Sorry but it's a dead end. If you have friend the MASK ROM's orjonny5 wrote:anybody know anyone who can repair this?
