Removing Japanese Connector Pins

Post by poodude »

Have any of you tried to remove Japanese connector pins from their molex-like housing? I do not have a tool to pop these out and tried using a small screw driver. I put a lot of pressure on it and nothing would budge.

Is there a tool or another method of removing these pins without messing up the housing?

Don't just push. There's a little metal "catch" inside that needs to be depressed while you pull on the pin.

Poodude indeed. :)

Can you recommend a method of depressing the pin to pull it out. I couldn't visibly see anything to depress. What I tried was, stick a pin in the "wire in" end and pressing down on the top of it as hard as i could and pull the wire at the same time. Not a budge. I'm close to just sawing off the connector.

Japanese connectors is too vague: they can be very different from each other depending on brand and series. But if it's the AMP Universal Power ones (common on many japanese cabs such as Astro City, Naomi, etc.) check this:

Sorry for being vague. I am specifically trying to get the pins out of the 8 pin male connector that would go from the control panel into the female connector inside the cab of the Astro City.

Thanks for the link. I think that might be the ticket. I'll just need to try and find a screw driver small and stable enough to fit in to release it.
