Dimahoo or Dragon BLaze / Raiden Fighters JET Strikers 1999

Post by Bigsasquatch »

Hi,

my setup is currently such that I have no real chance to try these using MAME, and I am looking to expand beyond the Cave ( and couple of Raizing titles )

So the question is :

For a fantasy themed shooter do I go Dimahoo or Dragon BLaze

For an Aero based one do I go 1999 or RF Jet ?

INterested in your opinions as I can't try em for myself......( other than 1999 which I have played )

Cheers

Highly subjective.
But one thing's certain: Don't buy both DB and 1999 (You played one Psikyo game, you played them all)

Can't comment on RFJ or 1999, but I'd pick Dimahoo over Dragon Blaze any day.

Nonsense. All three are great, and you can't go wrong with any of them.

raiden fighters 2 should be your 1st choice if you dont already have it :)

after that id say RFJ > Dimahoo > 1999 > DB

ed: these are all high quality games btw, all flawless as far as presentation and gameplay go so theres no worrying there.
with that said i fucking hate the scoring systems in both DB and Dimahoo tho :x

Yeah, me too. But I hate the level design in Dimahoo too while I like it n DB, so playing DB for survival is more fun than playing Dimahoo.

I just don't like Dimahoo at all.

I don't understand this hating on the DB scoring system. Excellent balance of risk/reward, and it's so much fun to use the dragon shot. Technical bonuses are a nice plus.

All of them. Not to mention Dimahoo is very easy to emulate if there isn't an arcade machine around.

Yep.

Dimahoo has a really bad scoring system. You could choose 1999 over DB, but I think DB has the better scoring of the two.

Mahou Daisakusen and Strikers 1999. ;) ... Honestly I'm not a big fan of Dimahoo. I like all of the others, but honestly 1999 just has something about it that makes it more fun than other Psikyo games. It's very difficult and fast (like RF Jet), and has some of the best animation of any Psikyo game (with the possible exception of Dragon Blaze). Mahou Daisakusen, on the other hand, is just pure oldschool fun, with great levels, enemies, and music. Still my favorite fantasy themed shooter to date.

Want deep play, from an adventure standpoint?
Dimahoo and RF Jet

Want deep play from a scoring perspective,
Both the psikyo ones.
Like was said, all those games are amazing. You'll end up wanting them all eventually.

I don't know. Frankly I didn't like it as soon as I played it, and I typically love Psikyo games. Maybe I just need to give it more time...

I DO NOT AGREE

Dimahoo's music is highly overrated, for one.

And don't get me started on Psikyo tunes...but if you're counting the music against the game you're doing it RONG (I play the Psikyo games the most out of this bunch)

The only one of those games I really like is Dimahoo.

I think it's an awesome game, but some seem to have real issues with it.

As for RFJ, it reminds me too much of Strikers, and I don't like Psikyo. That being said, I like it MORE than Strikers or Dragon Blaze.

Lies and Slander. Genius of Battle and the stage 2 song are my favorite songs from shooters, and that's really hard to decide on considering how much good music there is in the genre.

A few years back, my local movie theatre had a Strikers 1945 III upright cabinet. The first intial game costed fifty cents but to continue, it was priced at a quarter. I loved playing it whenever I got the chance. Eventually, it was removed from the premises and never seen again...

I broke down and bought a JPN region Strikers 1999 PCB with all original arcade paperworks + mini poster. The only thing missing is the Psikyo factory box that would complete this PCB setup...

The attention to the smallest details found in both Strikers 1999/Strikers 1945 III PCBs, is what Psikyo is famous for...to actually see individual parts open and close, hydraulics move, parts recombine into other parts that eventually become the end-stage mecha boss is awesome. Psikyo did their homework and it paid off in spades... ^_~

The Strikers 1999 maintenance code allows you to see the finer inner workings of such detailed mechanisms of the enemy stage bosses... ^_~

Having played both the earlier Strikers 1945 and Strikers 1945 II PCBs at the local arcades, Strikers 1999 is the best one in the series to date...

Now if Psikyo had brought out Gunbird 3 PCB, it would've have had a new gameplay element/mechanic + some new characters + crazier story endings to devour through...can't stray too far off from the classic Gunbird formula. ^_~

And doesn't Aruze own all the Psikyo arcade intellectual properties? Would be wise to see if they could make another arcade shmup title...
