Difficulty-wise, this game is made easier by the fact that you can continue in both versions after losing all your lives and sometimes, the rank will reset upon continuing.
Why Malc?

Why is he comparing Sunsoft published games with internally developed ones?

Also, why is Malc posting these reviews?

I think the disparency between the Shmups forum and the site that it evolved from is pretty obvious. I would even go as far as to describe them as unrelated to one another.

Reading through the (admittedly naive) reviews made me yearn for less of the misguided elitism that plagues this forum

We need to guide our elitism into a site that doesn't suck.

lol, in Saturn section Garegga is listed as coming out in 1988

Also:
So what do I, Malky, think of G-Darius? Chuck's review is spot on, but being a picky sod I've got a couple of things to add!
Bad stuff: sometimes staying alive is pure luck, as there's just SO much going on onscreen.
Good Stuff: The 45 degree angle levels, like Viewpoint! Fabulous 2-player mode.
Such a good game, and will probably never be released in the Uk. Annoys the hell out me that. Malc
45 degree levels like Viewpoint, guys. G-Darius has it.

The older reviews are inspired by magazine reviews of the 90s when the genre was known as action zapping. Here's another example.

Truth be told, I miss the early 00's version of shmups.com. There was actually plenty of appreciation of scoring games and manics (on the channel and forums at least), but also lots of room too for the 16-bitters and survival play. Sure, the view of shooters wasn't as refined, but there was a lot less posturing. Oh well.

There's one section of a level I can remember.

Wasn't it '98? I know there is a preview on that Souky disc so it must have been somewhat late. That sounds like a typo to me.

Yeah, that is a pretty strange statement. There's that one part where you're climbing into the atmosphere and it's angled, but was there another that was 3/4 view?

I like 'action zapping'. I might try and bring that back into common usage!

1996. Very unlikely it is a typo, may be a mispaste or something like that.
