The board I had was the cheapo re-release, so the sound really was shit and the graphics were a little high contrast, and I just played it a tiny bit-- however, in Raiden 2, first level, you fly over fields, houses, a mountain and crater filled with water, some other stuff, and in Raiden DX, I remember just a bunch of brown, burned up trees and dirt, perhaps ending in a swamp, and I can't remember how the other levels were. Is much more boring in the backgrounds or do I remember it wrong?thesuperkillerxxx wrote:^^^
I also own the Project and DX and cannot detect a graphical difference..... DX doesn't get much love in the Williams household though.
Raiden II is a must have just for the boss music and the Stage 5 Boss fight, as they are sheer perfection. Because of this, it is the best in the series (1,2,dx). Absolutely brutal difficulty, I LOVE IT!!!!
Best Raiden game?
on ps1 raiden DX and project (both played in tate) look about the same, 2 is a bit ore colorful (which can be adjusted by the color setting of your tv, really) but DX is a better port, 2 suffers from a bit of flickering not present in DX, and its very unlikely you'll see the whole playfield, in raiden DX, you're more likely, by flickering i mean that the scrolling is constantly "shaking" a bit, dont really know how to explain it, this is morre apparent in yoko.
id pardon this since project was an early PS title.

I agree.dpful wrote:IMO that one was the worst- I never really got a chance to get in to it though, I had the cheapo version on PCB and sold pretty soon after I got it, so maybe it's better than I thought.
I really love Raiden II- a real marathon and hard as hell in the arcade- I think it ranks up there with the r-types as far as difficulty and compulive perseverence goes.
Raiden (1)- actually seemed a little more dramatic to me than #2 in it's own way and also really good, though definitely looking old.
As for fighers through jet,
Raiden fighters actually gets a little boring I think, especially compared to Jet which is a caffein trip the WHOLE way through. #1 seemed like a drawn out, older style thing in the same vein as raiden II but not as intense or charming- although all the Raiden fighters games have great sprites I think.
I've never tried #2 and am under the impression that it's actually the best, is that true?
The Raiden Fighters series are quite boring. They have the best graphics though.
Raiden II is the best imo.
What I love most about Raiden II is the cool Bass of the explosions! In the PSX version they sound very destructive!

Raiden Project continues to collect dust on my shelf.
Last time I checked, I couldn't get my Raiden Project to go in tate. That's why I choose not to play it. Besides, DX is a much better port, IMO.

Actually, what I mean to say is when I change the screen position to tate
the controls don't change with it. They stay the same as if I was still playing with my TV right side up. ......weird

Well, with the NA version anyway. It's my understanding that neither the Japanese nor the PAL version have this problem.
My FAQs: http://arcanelore.net/
Although, I actually enjoy the stretched screen mode. It seems dumb and changes the look of the game, but I actually like it and don't mind the super-deformed. I bet that if some of the other non-tateable games had this mode, I'd try it out and eventually enjoy it much more than letterboxed.
(I thought it was a pretty inovative thing- I liked it more than letterboxed)

I'm safe that I have the PAL version, I haven't used the tate version myself, but I thought I read something about it.raiden wrote:not with the jp or pal version.SheSaidDutch wrote:Yeah thats the flaw with The Raiden Project on PSX.The Bullet Dodger wrote:Actually, what I mean to say is when I change the screen position to tate
