MGS4

Post by Strider77 »

Is no one here playing through this now? I'm shocked there is no thread yet?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

90 minutes cutscenes lol.

I am a big fan of Metal Gear since Metal Gear on MSX. I have no PS3, and won't have one for many years, so I'll probably take some time to play it.

But 90 minutes cutscenes? L O L.

Konami confirmed it's an exaggeration. The first time I heard it, I thought the game had a total of 90 minutes of cutscenes and thought the game might be much more playable.

Anything that goes over 5 minutes starts bothering me. They seem to forget they're making a game, not three movies.

According to IGN the longest one tops out at about 45 minutes.

Went down to my local Gamestop yesterday and plunkled down some serious cash for the Limited Edition version of MGS4 -- well worth the $$$ spent, indeed...

Just need to crack open the shrinkwrap and fire it up on the ol' PS3 and see what Konami has whipped up this time around. I see that MGS4 has support for both 1080i and 1080p. I'll stick with 1080p format any ol' day... ^_~

FYI: Konami has said that this particular MGS4 game title will be the very last MGS game to be released and no more titles, period...we shall see about that if Konami can hold up to their word on that. Might has well end it with a "big bang" grand finale... ^_~

Konami should make a live-action MGS movie, that would be bad-ass... ^_~

It's not.
It's supposed to end Snake's story. But nobody's really 100% sure of even that. If you look hard enough, you can currently find chatter of MGS5.

Cash cows don't like to end unless the main hand(s) in development walks. Even then, there's always Katamari Damacy...

Also, complaining about cutscene lengths 5-6 iterations later is weak sauce. Like you couldn't expect this kinda shit to happen by now. "Oh hai I hate Daifukkasu because it has sooo much chaining in it!" What the hell dude....

It's fantastic..... If you are a metal gear fan you'll love it. If your still complaining about long cut scenes then you've never really liked a metal gear then. You can skip them....

This and Ninja Gaiden 2 are the best next gen games I've played so far.

That was hilarious.

Not even MGS2 , which is the worst-offender, had cutscenes of 45 minutes. This is stupid. I am glad there are no 90 minutes cut-scenes for real... I've heard the gmae has like 9 hours of just cut-scenes.

I love the Metal Gear games, but I really wish there were more gaming and less watching on them. the MSX games weren't bad on that regard :)

I'd rather not be a true fan of anything if that means I can't voice my dislike of stuff like stupidly long cutscenes (MGS), recycled sprites (Castlevania, Metal Slug), forced boss rushes (a lot of Capcom games), etc.

Surely, one can be a fan and still have complaints about something they don't like.

Nobody actually likes playing videogames anyway
How unfortunately true.

It's a game, people. imo, it's intended to be less of a game and more of a movie. Get over it and move on if you don't like it and quit complaining, because it isn't going to help anything.

I would definitely be playing the messiah game MGS4 now, but there's one problem... I haven't completed MGS2 and 3 yet, and would therefore miss out on all the totally epic continuity shit if I moved straight to part 4. So now I'm halfway through MGS2 and loving it. The mailman is delivering my copy of MGS4 next week, so I still have some days to finish the earlier games. I almost completed the MSX Metal Gears back in the day... I'll be playing those again soon. They were so far ahead of their time. Did I mention Kojima is a genius? And yeah, Penguin Adventure is one of the all time tour-de-forces of game design.

About cut scenes: It would suck royally if all games had them, but luckily there are Super Stardust HD and countless other games for those who need a quick dose of ceaseless action without interruptions. I've always been a movie junkie, so the deepest enjoyment I've had from games which have had main emphasis on storytelling and atmosphere like Snatcher and Killer 7. So if you've got _good_ 90 minute cut scenes, bring them on by all means, I'll be happy to watch them (once at least.. please don't ever never do unskippable cut scenes!).

I just watched the Gametrailers review on YouTube and people are having SHITFITS because they gave it "only" a 9.3 out of 10. I watched it out of pure curiosity since I never played any of these games.

i play videogames to get out of the reality, so whether its a game or a movie doesn't really matter. i still however want to feel like i've accomplished something when gaming however, and i considering reading a book, finishing a story, a movie, etc to be an accomplishment of sorts.

unfotunately running around a city aimlessly shooting hookers might consitute of a story as well, tho if its that same story the next day and the next, i'd probably say it's a rather boring story and stop interacting with it.

my impressions of mgs4 are great, it's thus far been a story which i want to keep progressing and ultimately finish.

You should give MGS a spin sometime, they are quite good stories put together by the fine folks at Konami... ^_~

I wish Konami had put an unskippable 90 minute cutscene in MGS4, followed by a codec malfunction or something like that (thus not letting you save for a while) and the hardest boss battle ever immediately after it. Don't ask me why, but I really wish they had.

That type of observation is one that Konami should make a note of and apply towards MGS5 title...they do listen/read to customer feedback/suggestions. ^_~

The story is your's to write so if it constitutes "running around a city aimlessly shooting hookers every single day," and you say it's a boring story, well.....

Now if you want an interactive story book, just say that and move on. From what I've seen of the gameplay, it looks very enjoyable and I will consider picking this one up on the cheap considering the short length of the game. The cutscenes are also completely skippable so I'm not put off by them.

I never really followed MGS after the 1st. I thought that was a truly great game and I loved the VR missions pack. Then I lost interest. The story in 4 would have to be something phenomenal for me to sit there and watch hours of cutscenes. Just doesnt appeal to me anymore do these stealth games.

I'm actually off to lamestop to pick up my reserved copy (the one and only game I've ever reserved actually). I've kept myself completely in the dark about MGS 4 so I hope it's been worth the wait. I'm a pretty big fan (if you couldn't tell by the alias  ) so here's hoping that Kojima has ended his masterpiece well.

Ok, it's IGN. But there was a big thing made out of them giving GTA4 a perfect 10, since they hadn't gave one to a game since DC Soul Calibur. Not only did it get a final 10, but 10 in every category. Now within 6 weeks, another game gets the exact same, 10s all the way. What are the odds?!

I don't own at PS3 atm, but now I am seriously tempted. But after MGS4, then what?

He definitely is. I would love to get the MGS collection for $30 for my PS2, and play through them all, but they gutted 3-no MSX games, and no Subsistence. :( I could just trade the 3rd back in.

I played some of the first one in college, at friends places, but my main problem was not enough shooting-still, I did watch some boss fights, including the final one, and there's plenty in those! :D

When I had a PSP, I bought Metal Gear Acid, and while I found the presentation to be awesome, the cards didn't make sense to me at all. Don't know how the second one is, though.
