That pin is for either composite video or composite sync. In the case composite video is passed through it the TV must strip the sync from the signal which is why it contains the circuit we have been talking about.
right, so it's one or the other. So why are both wires present in a Saturn SCART cable?

actually, why is C-Sync present at all on Sega consoles? so we can hack them to arcade monitors?

Both wires are present because the cable does both composite & RGB. Composite sync should be present when using RGB. I believe the fact that the PS2 doesn't supply it breaks the SCART standard.

Tototek converters?

Post by CC_Devil »

On a side note, has anybody ever tried to use Tototek converters with the Ultimarc PSX/DC Console Adapters?

I would like to do something like this:
Arcade controls --> JPAC --> PSX/DC Ultimarc Console Adapter --> Tototek Classic Joypad Coverter --> SFC/MD/PCE

I asked Andy but he wasn't sure it would work since he has never seen the Tototek converters.

Sounds like you'd be asking for a bit of lag.

Maybe not though. I've noticed no lag with this setup...

Arcade controls --> JPAC --> Ultimarc PSX/DC Adapter --> EMS Total Control Plus --> DC

The chain would be no longer if using a Tototek classic converter, and as far as I'm aware, they don't suffer from lag. As for whether they'd actually work with the Ultimarc adapter, I think (can't remember for definite though) I tried a Saturn converter and that worked, but I didn't like the way the buttons were mapped. That's probably why I ended up hacking a Saturn pad instead.

i received the new version psx adaptor today and this one is problematic also, but in different ways. the player 1 side randomly pauses when an input is pressed (doesnt matter what p1 input, can be a direction or a button), can be unpaused using the pause button, but will pause again within 10-45 seconds. also, player one will randomly lock up in one direction. this is different than in the first psx adaptor because it will still accept other commands, and after a few seconds of pushing buttons/directions it will unlock and function normally again for about 20-45 seconds. player 2 side only suffers from the random pausing issue, same symptoms as p1 side.

i think i'm going to go the project box route now. it's a shame, cause if the ultimarc adaptors worked properly, they would be perfect for my setup.

It is a shame. I've bought a few things from Ultimarc, and Andy has always been helpful, but there does seem to be an issue with the PSX adapters. The build/hack your own route makes sense. Instead of using a project box though, you could just make use of the hacked pad casing. It's probably easier, and still fairly neat...

nice controller hack
I always wanted to do one where the controller still worked (solder to the traces, not the buttons)
