Ibara Screen Issues (PS2)
Would someone please explain to me why it is that Ibara looks like a game seen through the bottom of a couple of milk bottles?
Ibara was the first PS2 shmup I bought and when it arrived I was impressed. Trouble is since then I've bought and played other PS2 shmups with no foggyness issues at all. Similarly the Saturn has none of these issues.
Why then this PS2 conversion?
Recently I've only been playing Battle Garegga (and I'm loving it) on the Saturn and I thought let's see if all this playing helps me on Ibara. Booted it up. Thought I was in a pea souper - and couldn't see what the hell was going on.
Anyone else with these issues?

its because the game is interlaced and they used weird filters on it....its the same with mushi, just not as bad
if you have a modded ps2 there is a patch that antron made somewhere in the hardware forum....just make an image of the game and apply the patch to the game image and burn it...it deinterlaces it....doesnt remove the filters tho, sadly
heres the thread:
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... ight=ibara
makes it much better
just go through the thread...he makes patches for mushi, ibara, shiki 2 and a few others

Wow, I just tried the patch for Mushi and it looks a lot clearer. I'm gonna try the Ibara and Raiden 3 patches later.jonny5 wrote:its because the game is interlaced and they used weird filters on it....its the same with mushi, just not as bad

is it a Fat PS2? HDLoader is a great way to run these patched games (You won't be using your real discs anyway)subcons wrote:This is kind of making me want to just sell my Japanese PS2 and buy a modded one.Wes112 wrote:Wow, I just tried the patch for Mushi and it looks a lot clearer. The PC program to put the images on the hard drive, Winhiip, even features a PPF patch applier.
And Ibara's load times reduce in a major way.

Calling Giga Wing Generations to this thread. At least Ibara has tate and a consistant frame-rate.subcons wrote:Yeah, Ibara is by far the worst looking conversion of all the big shooter titles that came out. I was so disappointed with it when I got it.
Rob, I heard you sold your copy... so you can't say shit!

Kiken is referring to the Taito Type X arcade version of Gigawing Generations...Kiken wrote:The first two were, but Generations was an actual tate screen game in the arcade.jonny5 wrote:but isnt the gigawing series a yoko vertical game like mars matrix??
If you can afford it, by getting an Ibara PCB, will your eyes be thanking you for the superior and razor-sharp crispness that is arcade RGB low-resolution of 15.7 kHz sync rate signal. Only if Taito did their homework properly and didn't have to resort to filters, then would the currently released Ibara PS2 port be just as good as the PCB version (as Arika did with their Cave shmup ports of DDP-DOJ and ESPgaluda for the respected PS2 platform)... ^_~
It all comes down to spending yen to get the job done right the first time...or not.

Tell that to Cave.. they were responsible for the port. Taito are merely guilty through association (since they published the thing).PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Only if Taito did their homework properly and didn't have to resort to filters, then would the currently released Ibara PS2 port be just as good as the PCB version (as Arika did with their Cave shmup ports of DDP-DOJ and ESPgaluda for the respected PS2 platform)... ^_~
Also, can I get some confirmation here... were Cave actually responsible for the Saturn ports of DP and DDP? It would certainly explain a lot, seeing as Atlus (who published the ports) obviously knew their way around the hardware.

It is, indeed. Thank you for the info! I'll have to give this a shot.antron wrote:is it a Fat PS2? HDLoader is a great way to run these patched games (You won't be using your real discs anyway)

As for GWG... yeah, that was a horrid port from what I read. I never even tried it out though. Vert port + no tate = deal breaker for me.

Wasn't Ibara on different hw in the arcade though from DDP-DOJ and ESP Galuda? It's possible I guess that they couldn't match the res. It's still too bad, because I remember playing PS2 Ibara on an arcade setup at a meet and it was very blurry. Does it look okay on a standard TV? I was thinking of picking it up.PC Engine Fan X! wrote: (as Arika did with their Cave shmup ports of DDP-DOJ and ESPgaluda for the respected PS2 platform)... ^_~

Yeah, that was a really disappointing port. The only thing I can think of which matches the badness is PSX Viewpoint.subcons wrote:As for GWG... yeah, that was a horrid port from what I read. I never even tried it out though. Vert port + no tate = deal breaker for me.

they could have matched the res just fine. All they had to do was set the PS2 to 240p mode instead of 480i. Lucky for us rekless figured out how to do it anyway.louisg wrote: Wasn't Ibara on different hw in the arcade though from DDP-DOJ and ESP Galuda?
