G-Darius difficulty

Post by Rockstar »

hey guys... I just picked up Taito Legends 2 for the PS2.

I wanted it for G-Darius and Darius Gaiden.

I find them both to be good games.... but I'm highly puzzled about something....

What does changing the difficulty affect???

When I play it on Maniac, it plays exactly the same as when it's on Super Easy. I could believe that there is just a minute difference in difficulty, but that seems highly unlikely since there are like SEVEN DIFFERENT DIFFICULTY SETTINGS..... off the top of my head it's something like:
Super Easy
Very Easy
Easy
Normal
Hard
Very Hard
Maniac

so.... I'm very confused.... anyone have any insight on this??

thanks in advance!

If you didn't notice any significant difference, then it is likely that you are very good at G-Darius.

Changing the difficulty seems to affect the amount of shots it takes to destroy midboss and boss enemies (but apparently not other enemies), how soon the enemies shoot after they are visible on screen, the shot speed, and in some cases even the number of shots.

Don't be fooled by the small amount of shots or seemingly slower shots from the smaller enemies in formations... even starting with just Zone Alpha, the fish midboss with the gold armor plating on the head (Zone Alpha, Area A--encountered shortly after the music starts playing) shoots much faster in Maniac mode with lots of those blue shots, and the first boss Eclipse Eye is already shooting the first missile attack way faster in Maniac mode, even before the much faster three-way spread shots and other attacks.

I think it's just a selection of default rank, or rank increase speed.

toaplan - haha, thanks for the compliment.... I feel like that might be the case for the stages themselves, I almost never die during those.

but it's the boss fights that drive me nuts. I am not ashamed to admit that I suck at fighting roughly half the bosses in the game. I understand the beam fight trick, but I swear the bosses' deadliest attack comes right before they fire the beam, so I never have any ships to turn into Alpha Beams to return fire. =\

I wish there was a boss rush mode for me to practice the bosses, but this is a straight arcade port so .... no dice.

anyway, thanks guys... keep the info coming if anyone else has any =)

There is a Boss Rush Mode in the PSX version of G-Darius... ^_~

The 1997 G-Darius PCB has the aforementioned seven levels of difficulty that you mention of in the Taito Legends 2 compliation disc...the PCB version is really the one to play/own. And yes, the PCB version does have several points of slowdown when there is too much going on-screen with the polygonal enemies + trademark Darius styled scatter-fire bullets...

G Darius is much harder for me on Taito Legends, due to less slowdown than the PSX version. I'm just not used to it yet.
