i would love to give this game a spin, judging from the previous videos and this one it looks to have some really fantastic level design and one bangin' old school sountrack.

Erm... It's... this, is it not?Dylan1CC wrote:BTW, anyone know what the "Darius deluxe box" is under the Raiden ad? I'm guessing it's a soundtrack?

That Green Snake Laser beam looked better & more sinister in Raiden II. The Green-Star flash on the tip of the Raiden Fighter just doesn't look right.Dylan1CC wrote:Wow, these pics give a better idea of the game's visuals than any others I have seen. The game looks so crisp and detailed, and futuristic but still looks like the old games. PS2 port pleeeaase.
Wint'ogreen beam versus mercilessly manic bullets and asteroids!
High octane vanilla space base shooting, whoo:
Also the Blue laser Beam, looks more like a Thunder than a laser, which is what I would have imagined it to be.

I'll have to see them in action though.
The graphics look good but over all level & enemy design don't look any better than Ikaruga, Border Down or similar polygon based Shmups.
But the Raiden series are mostly known for their gameplay rather than graphics. Still it would have been great to combine both using today’s hardware. This doesn't look like its utilizing Taito Type x to its limits.
This mecha for example doesn't look better than RayStorm 1st Level Mecha Tank Boss.

This level looks cool.
I would like to see it move.
It reminds me of some Radiant Silvegun Levels. I wonder if it scrolls the same.

By the way, which is the Sandworm Boss?
I haven't seen any matching that description?
Skyknight wrote: Also, I've cooked up some unofficial names for the bosses posted on Moss's website so far. This time, I culled from the demons listed in the Lesser Key of Solomon. It's over at http://www.deliriumsrealm.com/ if you want to check to see why I chose the names I did
1: Belial
2: Camio
3: Forneus
4: Astaroth
5: Volac
6: Crocell
Interesting article but how do these Demon names correlate to the Raiden III Bosses apart from them being evil?
But yes in other shooters the Bosses looked very sinister & could have been Demons them selves!
Thunder Force V, Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga, Gaiares, comes to mind...
Beat the game, yay.
Time to resurrect this topic for a bit.
I went to a local arcade and quarter-fed the game to the end tonite. (100-yen-fed, really, but whatever...) There are 7 levels, one boss per level, a few levels have a miniboss-esque large ship, but not all. The game is mostly non-manic, but there are a lot of really fast moving bullets in the later levels, especially from some of the later bosses, so the game is actually quite difficult. The final boss has some outrageous bullet sprays that put some manic games to shame.
You get -lots- of bombs, and they're really, really powerful. You can kill most bosses with a few bombs and a little bit of dodging and firing. I don't really like the high bomb count, but oh well.
Other random bit of good news: NO BIOLOGICAL LEVEL AT THE END. The final boss is a ship. Hurrah!
Raiden has never been a series with that problem, but I was still relieved.
In the credits, a couple of people are listed as being "EX:SEIBU KAIHATSU" and "EX:" something. Sorry, I forget the second one. I'm not sure if this means that only a few people from Seibu Kaihatsu are involved or what.
Here's hoping for a home port of this one, it's quite fun overall!

Wow !
Just watched the new videos (link posted by Parodius) and now i must say:
Maybe our legendary shooter isnt dead !
Thank you very much for posting the videos.
And i remember right Raiden 3 will also support the 31 khz modus.
"Alter Schwede" (like some cowboy said in an old western film
)
The game could be really cool at all.
I think i have to check out my bank account...
Greetings

Now that I've seen the videos...
It certainly looks like the level designers had Raystorm on the mind...
That said, the boss bullet spreads (what few I've seen) seem to be of the Raizing variety. I'm sure I've run into similar patterns in Dimahoo...

The third screenshot makes me wonder if the final stage is supposed to be some sort of temple (admittedly, so was the final area in R2...).
Details for the final boss's appearance? Moss simply blacked it out and placed a question mark...I'm wondering if it has anything like that face from the screenshot.

Well most of the levels & Bosses of Raiden 2 were remakes of Raiden 1 So I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same case in part 3 aswell...
From The PAL Raiden Project Game Booklet:
The Stages of Raiden:
Stage1: Tranquil Countryside
Stage2: In The City
Stage3: On The High Seas
Stage4: Mysterious Ruins
Stage5: Enemy's Earth Base
Stage6: Floating Continent
Stage7: Space Station
Stage8: Enemy Space Battleship
The Stages of Raiden II:
Stage1: The Rural Zone
Stage2: Go To Town
Stage3: Enemy Naval Base
Stage4: Ruins of The Ancients
Stage5: Enemy Relay Base
Stage6: Floating Crystal World
Stage7: Enormous Galactic Battleship
Stage8: The Final Target
I checked the game is motion from some videos & screen shots. The graphics don't look that great compared to Ikaruga. I'm disapointed by the fatc that the Green Laser BEam doesn;t look as destructive as it was in Raiden II & the blue laser looks more like the DoDonPachi Lasers.
Let's hope the gameplay is ogood atleast.
