Has anyone gotten this to run on PSP?
I did a search and saw this thread. Same case scenario (sort of): the game comes up fine from the eboot I made, but it'll only load Tiger-Heli. Kyukyoku Tiger and Twin Cobra both hang at the load screen sort of like Dodonpachi does if you don't create your file correctly. I made it using IcedTea BTW, so it's loading from POPS, hence it should work (I got DDP working fine).
Probably a lost cause as it sounds like this particular game doesn't like to be emulated for some reaon. Figured I'd ask anyways...
Toaplan Shooting Battle on PSP? EDIT: Yes, it works.

Let's see...
Tiger Heli feels horribly antiquated. KT/TC is definitely a very difficult shmup. They are both native vertical.
In short, a portable version of this should sound like a nightmare.
Why one has to daydream about Toaplan SB V1 on PSP when one could daydream about, well, a Darius compilation, a port of Border Down... Games that would make the best use of a psp 16:9 screen.
No hard feelings, it's just a question. Even a Toaplan lover should ask for PSP Hellfire instead of this.

Good news, KT's internal resolution (which matches its aspect ratio, hooray) is lower than the PSP's, so you should be able to tate it and not lose anything.
The other good news is that I found KT's ship speed slow enough that an analog stick doesn't really hamper gameplay like it does some other shmups.
Unfortunately, playing the DS and PSP "tated" is a horrible, horrible idea, especially considering both are button mashers and your buttons and control stick are on the opposite sides of the device.

I got it working on PSP with no problems. Twin Cobra runs at full speed too, unlike on the PS2. I think I ripped it with Popstation GUI but I'm not sure.
It's really not that bad to play tate'd PSP as long as you turn on autofire. The biggest problems are the crappy d-pad and ghosty screen. PSP is basically my dedicated Twin Cobra, Raiden DX and Harmful Park machine.

I think you misunderstand. I'm trying to get the PS1 version to work on the PSP. I actually have the Darius games up and running on it...Turrican wrote:Let's see...
Sheit... with rapid fire on, I've been playing all kind of verts tated on my PSP as of late.Ed Oscuro wrote:Unfortunately, playing the DS and PSP "tated" is a horrible, horrible idea, especially considering both are button mashers and your buttons and control stick are on the opposite sides of the device.
@cutty_sark, Thank for the info. I'll give it a go with Popstation GUI an see if that does the trick.
EDIT: I got this working. Just a note in case anyone else does a search for this: I've tried converting this game into an eboot using both IcedTea and Simple Popstation GUI with compression both on and off with no success. Same result: Tiger-Heli works, the other two do not. So I'm not sure why, but if you use PSX2PSP Popstation (I used v1.3), it seems to work fine, even with compression on (which saves about 100 meg).

No I did unerstand what you aimed at. It's just that I played verts on PSP myself and I really find it uncomfortable. And since KT/TC is a pretty hectic bullet hell, I can't see what pleasure one might find in playing it on a so tiny area.subcons wrote:I think you misunderstand. Anyway, good to hear it works (TH at least), have fun

I had never played it before, but I can kind of see what you guys are saying after having put in a little time with it last night. Almost every shot that comes out of an enemy is aimed right at you... plus the smaller ships seem to like flying into you. Pretty tough game.Turrican wrote:No I did unerstand what you aimed at. It does kind of suck that I can't map rapid fire to R, but it's still playable. I'll probably put it to the side for now to play some other stuff. It was just bothering me that I couldn't get it to work.

KT / TC's popcorn enemies make the Raiden ones they inspired look like mildly annoyed Sunday drivers. Those things are horny to crash headfirst into your helicopter... makes you wonder if the dudes inside are even wearing crash helmets.
