Sigma AV7000 & Raijin RGB output

Post by GaijinPunch »

Okay, I had a cable made with an lm1881 circuit to strip the sync. AV7000 does (and always has) played just fine. The Raijin, does not (looks like when you send sync, and the monitor doesn't know what do with it). Seeing as how the sync is stripped, I'm a bit confused. Also confused as to why they have different output.

The RGB connector already has composite sync so I don't see why you thought it needed to be stripped. Having built cables for both the Raijin and the AV6000 (or AV7000) I know they're exactly the same.

If "PCBs work like a champ" and "the issue comes in when using console games" then why don't you just disconnect the cable with the LM1881 circuit when using the supergun? The circuit is separating the composite sync into hsync and vsync and only hsync is probably going to the monitor.

Well, that's definitely the way to go, but the goal was to have one end all be all cable. The connector is on the inside of the casing, so makes it a bit of a bitch. That, and my non-lm1881 cable has just about had it (it has no shielding). If I'm going to have the XRGB2 connected to any of the machines I use, then it doesn't make much sense to not use it for any of them, as it's more work reconnecting and disconnecting.

Add a switch to turn off the LM1881 circuit when it's not needed.

Well, I didn't make the cable. Can't really mod stuff when the old lady is around, and she's coming back tomorrow. So, perhaps a project on her next trip.

Is it possible to do your soldiering outside...sounds like the wife is paranoid about the fumes given off from such work. I know all about soldiering, used to do with when working on such stained glass projects -- is a lot more work than just your average electronics soldiering job, of course...

That's exactly it. But, she's also worried about the small leftovers, even of lead-free solder which I use from time to time. My son is 16 months, so will put anything he can in his mouth. Fair enough. I'll have my own office at some point this year and I can do all this shit there.

After talking w/ the maker of the cable, it appears Raijin has a weird composite sync. He explained it in Japanese, but it's a bit out there. Keep that in mind. Of course, this might not be an issue depending on your hardware. As before, it works fine on a Wega, or through an XRGB2.

Running a sync-stripped signal through another LM1881 shouldn't matter. It's like sticking a round peg through a square hole (knocks off the sides) and then through another square hole (it fits, so nothing new happens).

By the way, I didn't need to run an LM1881 with my PS2 sync while using it on my XRGB2+, so I guess the XRGB2+ has a built in sync stripper.
