It's good to see someone take a stand against all this lowest-common-demoninator marketing bullshit. It ties in with the whole anti-MTV rant going through the XBox 360 thread, the damned video game companies are all trying too hard to make themselves hip and cool, appealing to the mainstream crowd of casual gamers.
I've never played a game published by Agetec, but I've respected what they've done in the past, releasing quirky Japanese games in a market bloated with yearly updates and soulless FPSs. Now they address the booth babes. Good work.
It won't have any affect, and will probably even hurt Agetec, as they claim they'll have "ugly girls" demonstrating games. It's not the appearance they should be concerned about. What they need are real gamers. Not some glorified pinup in a skanky outfit who doesn't know two shits about what she's whoring out. Find some real girl gamers -- do they even need to be girls -- and have them sell the games. It'll work, trust me. The people at E3 are geeks, they'd much rather have girls who aren't intimidating.

Dunno how far this type of effort'll get...sex sells in every industry, not just video games. Advertisers don't just put it there because everyone else does; they do it because it makes money, and as long as it makes money it's going to stay, if not become more prevalent. And as long as people are still interested in sex (especially in modern culture, which is downright obsessed with it, by and large), it will be exploited to its fullest extent by people who want to make money off of it.
In spirit, I support the effort, since I've more or less completely lost my taste for contemporary gaming culture; heck, that's why I'm playing shmups so frequently these days. However, if I were to take an active role in this sort of "movement" I would feel like I was on a sinking ship, so to speak...and I'm already more or less in a lifeboat by myself as it is.

Ya know, this coming from a COMPANY is really surprising IMO.
I think I'll play my copy of Space Shooter, as it's the only Agetec game I have, just as a respect to what they are doing.
I really don't care if it's going to work or nothing just the matter that they are doing something about is enough to earn respect from myself.

Exactly; not to mention that every female character in video games these days seems to be dressed like a total slut. This is not only demeaning to women, it's also not in the least bit realistic. 'Cause, didn't 'ya know, when you're going into a deadly battle that what you really want is maximum skin exposure.Specineff wrote:Let me put it this way.

I agree with alpha; this IS the lowest common denominator.

on a side note:
bridgestone used to do commercials with a remix of rosanne cashes "the wheel" actually they might still be doing them, you know with the hot twenty somethings like holding tires or sitting on one with a lap top.
i actually respect that, they had the balls to use sex to sell tires, not like rims or anything just normal tires.

Sorry Dave, when I'm going into battle I don't think I'm going to be taking a Mormon girl. I don't think I'll be taking any kind of woman since we're going for realism here right?dave4shmups wrote:Exactly; not to mention that every female character in video games these days seems to be dressed like a total slut. Unless, of course I'm wrong and there really are companies out there that make Kevlar thongs.

Since videogames aren't realistic I prefer the way women are portrayed in Ninja Gaiden. I don't need an uptight chubby chick telling my ninja how pumped on testosterone he is and how violence is not always the answer to life's problems. I want Rachel, the big boobed hard abs ass kicking unrequited love of Ryu's life. That's the right way to go about this stuff.
Now merely putting sex in a game to replace good gameplay, that is wrong and that is what we should be arguing about. We should be promoting a gamer agenda instead of the Puritan agenda.
Proud citizen of the American Empire!
Usually I like Agetec's output, but their E3 lineup is a bit weak this year...
Armored Core: Formula Front (PSP)
Armored Core: Nine Breaker (PS2)
PoPoLoCrois (PSP)
RPG Maker 3 (PS2)
Wild ARMs: Alter Code F (PS2)
It almost seems like they're doing this as a publicity grab to make up for what little attention they'll be getting via their games.

Yeah, just a publicity stunt and the fact that that none of their games centers around sexiness. Could be a turn-off actually since *GENERALIZATION ALERT* their hordes of hardcore mecha fans probably want to see more females anyway. I do greatly respect Agetec's focus on niche games nevertheless.
As for this policy, I personally think this road is a poor choice. For one, if nobody had booth girls, those girls would be out of their jobs. Some would continue modeling; others might be pushed to prostitution (since many may not have orthodox job skills), which would be a far worse outcome than willingly selling their image rather than their body to earn income. Many booth girls aren't even dressed any worse than a normal girl you'd find on the streets. Although it is a bit disappointing to see that girls are used to try and drive game sales, it's also a recognition of the fact that the people who attend these shows are primarily all guys or girls accompanied by their guys.

But seriously, I'm no fan of how females are generally depicted in games (and most everywhere, really)...but of course, since I'm not a female, my opinion on such things really doesn't matter.

I never said I was Mormon, and there's no need to insult anyone on this forum who is. And do you honestly think that the only alternative to having women in video games dressed like sluts is to have them fully veiled?? Or can you not see that there that there is a middle ground here, and that that middle ground is hardly "Puritan"??The n00b wrote:Sorry Dave, when I'm going into battle I don't think I'm going to be taking a Mormon girl. Seriously, you CAN have women in games that are neither "uptight chubby chicks" (where you pulled that from I have no idea) or girls wearing 75mm ammo belts and swords on their thongs. Look at Hibana in Nightshade, for example-yes she's attractive, but she isn't dressed like a total prostitute.
And as far as not taking any woman with you, the vast majority of commanders in Iraq have said that the women over there have performed magnificently. And don't bother telling me that "video games aren't realistic" they're getting more so all the time-just take a look at the new XBOX 360 screens.

Psst - it's Hibana in Nightshade.dave4shmups wrote: Seriously, you CAN have women in games that are neither "uptight chubby chicks" (where you pulled that from I have no idea) or girls wearing 75mm ammo belts and swords on their thongs. Hotsuma's the main dude from Shinobi.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

Yeah, heaven forbade this people would have to get real jobs. But you did hot the nail on the head when you said without the "booth babe" income they would be forced in to prostitution.Ganelon wrote:As for this policy, I personally think this road is a poor choice. Personally I don't care either way, I make game purchases based on the quality of the games, not who advertises the nicest piece of ass. Considering that "hot girls" have be used to sell everything under the sun for for decades, I would figure most people would be beyond this trivial brand of marketing but apparently I was wrong.
HAHA
gleneon has set himself up for that one (or maybe he was kidding?)
man you should at E3 and tell a booth girl "hi there, you should be glad they let you show your body here for money or else youd be a prostitute LOL" then explain the rest to her boyfriend.
seriously thats way too dumb, its not like a good looking girl has trouble finding a job usually.

As for games, I don't mind a couple of cuties in them. I admit they factor in my buying decision but not so much that I only buy dating simulators.

"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"

Well, I was being serious. I don't see how I've set myself up for anything. If you weren't kidding and were instead looking for a discussion, then at least present your arguments rather than the lame "OMG!!11!!!!!111 thats dumb!" response and learn to spell. The vagrant wrote: HAHA

And I wasn't talking about just E3 but rather booth babe jobs in general (including any sort of product promotion, including cars and the like). Why would I go up to any random booth babe and assume that they specifically don't have orthodox skills? I was just generalizing, which may not apply to everyone.
As I said, ordinarily, they should have enough modeling talent to continue modeling but the sudden loss of an entire line of profession will create overflowing supply with the same demand, causing lost jobs, which would likely result in them going elsewhere. Throughout recent history, when women's unemployment increases, so does prostitution.
i didnt look for a discussion as much as i laughed at that post.
all the booth girls at e3 are probably doing this as a part time jobs, and seriously, they are a looong way from prostitution.
i dont know about where you're living, but where i am, prostitutes are never good looking, sane girls, and if they are, they're some refugees from either a third world country, or some eastern girls.
if you take the job of every girl that poses in commercials, i guess that'll be a lot of unemployment, but thats very different from saying that no boot girls at e3 = prostitution.
im fine with booth girls, im fine with half naked chicks in videogames, but that is about one of the only things i consider "sexism", to an extent, you're saying that women are either booth girls or prostitutes, maybe you should reread your post or get back to reality or something.

Problem is, modeling is made up of part time jobs. Take them all away and there goes the mooeling careers.
And that relates to the fact that again, I never said just E3 nor did I ever have that in mind. E3 is just one out of many, many shows where product modeling can be found. The site is just anti-booth babes in general so I commented on a hypothetical future where booth babe jobs in general suddenly stopped.
Also, nope, I never meant to say all booth girls would be turned to prostitutes. I simply said "others might be pushed to prostitution." Please don't imply meanings that aren't there.
