Dangun Feveron revisions and rom info HELP need roms

Post by dpful »

I just sold my Dangun Feveron PCB here on the forum, and they wrote back notifying me that the 999,999 bonus at the end of every level is not normal. What's wrong with the pcb? I can't imagine it being a bug. Has anyone come across this??? Has someone hacked the chips? It's not a boot otherwise- the hardware is legit. Has anyone ever seen this game modified or booted?

Could there be ANY revision or version released that does this?

Once again, it gives you a 999,999 bonus at the end of every level no matter how you play.

This whole time, I thought I was REALLY good at the game :D

Apparently there was some added protection on the international version of the feveron pcb, you could run EPROMs of the Japanese code on a Fever SOS board but perhaps it doesn't work 100% as expected. Did it look like official EPROMs on the board or did it have any stickers which might indicate it was not originally a Japanese board?

Other than that no idea :)

I have a Fever SOS that's been converted to a japanese Feveron via a rom swap and the scoring works fine.

Does anyone know where I could get the japanese roms burned and shipped? Since the break is so strange, I'm assuming that the it's roms have been hacked (who knows what twisted individual would work out that hack!?).

I'm hoping I can send bkk the roms (he bought it from me) and the board will be good. Any thoughts on the success of this endeavor?

Steph at Hobbyroms.com will do it for about $15-$20 shipped worldwide.

Although reading rtw's world-of-arcades website on the Dangun Feveron software revision, the decriptions looks wrong/backwards or something. I was sure one of the roms had to be hacked (broken protection) to work on the SOS board. You may want to consult with rtw first.

Nope, other way around, apparently.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

@undamned:
Indeed, 98/09/17. As far as I can tell the board is identical to the one shown on The Sheep's site.

So, I can email Steph at hobbyroms the link to the files on sheeps site (which are hacked to remove the SOS/Feveron version protection), and then he'll burn some chips that bkk can stick on the board and the probs fixed?

I'll get on that. Anymore input from any wise people?

So you are going to switch it to SOS/unprotected roms? Was this a JPN or International PCB originally?

I don't know what country the hardware belongs to. The game was Dangun Feveron, but since the chips have been altered already, don't know how to be sure, so thought I'd play it safe. (also, bkk can pick his version at this point).

bkk contacted me since we both live in Norway :D

As long as bkk gets the PCB sent to me I can do some tests
and reburn ROM's for him.

bkk, check your PM.

Currently working on bkk's Dangun Feveron. Dumped the ROM's and they are the same as in MAME.

Only difference I can see is that JP1 has points 1 & 2 shorted. Can anyone here and right now confirm that it's like that on their PCB ?

Here are the results of the Norwegian Jury :D

. The ROM's are the same as the Japanese version in MAME!
. JP1, 1 & 2 or 2 & 3 has no effect.
. The "unprotected" Fever SOS ROM's exhibit the same behaviour

Conclusion, the extra bonus is given because of a value which is set in the EEPROM, might be a debug flag which is inadvertently left on.

The EEPROM is only 128 bytes long so it's time to start editing the NVRAM file in MAME and finding out which of the bytes/bits will give this bonus.

In order to fix this PCB, the 93C46 needs to be desoldered and the contents replaced with that of a correctly working Dangun Feveron.

That deosn't explain how it got this way, does it? Does that mean a fever sos converted to a dangun feveron will do this (is that what it is?).

No, from his description it is unrelated to conversion of fever->dangun (indeed, I have one of these and it's fine)

As to 'how it got that way' there's probably no real answer to that. Maybe it was some weird debug setting that didn't get removed before they shipped it out, maybe it's bitrot, cosmic rays etc.

For dpful,

Just keep your Dangun Feveron PCB as it is...with bug and all. Yours is a unique one, indeed... ^_~
