Best Online Shmups

Post by Phil12 »

Are there any shmups i could play online with my friends and have score competitions? XBL ones obviously suck from my last thread. Any on the computer maybe?

You could always just play in mame and compare scores. Why not see who can get the highest score in a week or something?

Ikaruga on the aforementioned XBLA. Jetpac as well...though it's not technically a shmup. Excellent score-based multiplayer, however.

Ikaruga's co-op pretty much sucks unless you're actively planning and coordinating how to cooperatively chain, and that would take hours of planning at least.

I've had some fun with Twinkle Star Sprites online on GameTap, but that's not free. There are probably versions of MAME that can go online, look around for those maybe?

Yeah, that's true. Me and my friend were playing Varth today on a CPS2 emulator. It's always great fun.

"Exception" on PC has online co-op.

Get involved with the high score boards on this forum. I didn't go near them for ages, but once you do it really focusses and motivates your shmup playing...

Funny you should ask, the newest entry on shoot the core is supposed to be online multiplayer. Also rated as a "must have". I haven't tried it yet, but might be worth a go..

whoa cool site. That and Astro Avenger both look good. And of course I've already complimented Worstplayer on Laseroid.
